Would not a switch to zone D mid way through first half kept the margin
Closer and pace slower? Can't win with Collins taking and missing that # of shots, either got to get them down or don't take them! Same with Nickell gotta have more than 1-7 shooting Who guarded Bell for us? did nice job. Needed someone other than Pedulla on Mintz though. I could see this team losing the rest, hope not, but WF is really tough match up. @ L'ville no gimme. Although ND at home should be a win, they are better now and we were bad @ ND. Without Long we are just to thin on bench, I'd start playing Jayden Young much more.

It’s not so easy to just “switch to zone” when you never play zone.

That all depends on how well our players can play the zone.
and would you would play someone who has no experience playing not only the zone but also the speed and pressure of ACC basketball? Your post is the kind I respond to because it basically says that ball is nothing more than coaches manipulating and micro managing what happens on the court/field. Somehow any ole coach SHOULD be able to take any ole group of individuals and implement a very wide range of styles and play all with a simple signal. It does not happen like that. One thing posters do is suggest swinging for the fences rather than a coach doing and practicing what he knows his players can do best. More times than not, it isn't about what your opponents are doing, it is what you can reasonably do. There is no coaching magic to make SP as tall, long, quick and as strong as most ACC guards are. That is especially true when you add in that he does not have a passing outlet that can catch and attack the rim. Therefore his passing lanes are shrunk. What we see is what it is, 5 individuals all who have some strengths but just don't fit together well enough to be an upper level ACC team. As an example, SP could be an upper level ACC PG if surrounded by the right cast. But we don't have that. And no, no one season says much of anything about a coach. Now the question that I am asking is whether CMY is having locker room issues like CJF did? Something just is not right. But we will know for sure at the beginning of portal open season.

I am curious if Coach Young teaches
Any kind of zone defense? If man to man continually doesn't what's the harm in falling back into at least a basic 2-3 to switch it up? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to grasp the concept.

As others said, tough to do mid-season. But with a few more athletic...
...portal guys and working on the zone in the offseason (or bringing in a specialist to teach it) will be a must. The hedge just does NOT work against skilled, top half ACC offensive teams, that have coaches with half a brain.

Not a chance that we lose out. We are too good at home to lose both…
…remaining home games. I see a 2-1 finish and would not be surprised at a 3-0 finish.

WF lost at ND tonight.

Which means AGAIN we get a desperate team coming off an L facing us

LOL Which means we have another team as bad on the road at VT coming
to the Cassell !!

Yeah, they are almost as bad on the road as we are.

I say we storm the court on Saturday with Filipowski jerseys on!

With one big difference: They have more talent, deeper bench and more NIL
cash. WF is 18-10, 10-7 & 2-8 on the road. 15-0 at home. VT is 15-13, 7-10 & 1-9 on the road 12-2 at home. Which team(s) have/has underachieved?

Why didn't we just switch to a run and gun offense and outscore them?
The answer to both questions is the same: Because we don't run those systems.

Losing last 3 games? Good grief. WF, yes. They show what $millions in NIL
can buy. The other two? Only if the team calls it quits and these guys won't do that.

Hope you are correct!

I don’t recall CMY EVER playing zone

He did some at Wofford but was never great
hokiepro hokiepro
Kinda like our man to man. Never…well rarely…great
It helps when you play an inept offense like UVA but otherwise we’re pretty mediocre to bad defensively

At VT I do not think he ever has played zone. Just seems to me it would be
A good change up to try and stop a run, slow pace of game and limit guards driving on us where we can't guard guys 1:1.
