In order to lose those close games VT would need to get worse from an efficiency standpoint. They would either need to fall offensively or fall even further defensively In a thread about what does VT need to do to get better defensively, wondering if they could somehow get worse is one of the more irrelevant things you could posit So VT had 18 close games last season. In order to win 9 of those games, they needed to be 139th in the nation in defensive efficiency. In the years VT has been healthy, they've averaged being in the 50s defensively.
