The griping would be......

background noise, largely inconsequential. Griping becomes far less meaningful when they are not relevant and can be mitigated to some extent with revenue distribution. 256 is the number for even matchups with no byes down to the championship game. I don't think it is really any less compelling. Do you think the 12 or 16 team CFP is any less compelling than the present 4 team model. I think the trade off is minimizing useless/biased selection tools and settling the dispute on the court.
