You play him the amount best for the team in the current year It may sound nefarious, but the less you showcase him the lower his value is on the open market. So if you actually like him youre going to value him more than what others will see in him because theyre not in practice. If you give him a reasonable offer for the role he will provide it is much more likely to be higher than your peers So literally just keep open communication with him, let him know your plan for his development and stick to the plan. Where it is merited, play him and let him figure out how to make things work
