He did not put together good staff.

What has Byers added to the program? The other asst coaches are mediocre. Talent evaluation of recruits is questionable. Several of his better players refuse to play or stay with him. Again, he is a fine fellow and ethical and fairly good offensive coach but he can't compete in this era.
