As I noted in a previous post, I'm not sure that an ex-VT starting five wouldn't beat our current starters. I certainly think that some of our ex players were better at creating their own shot than the guys still on the team. Yes it's recency bias, but I note that Alleyne, Maddox, Buchanan, and Ojiako were all double-digit scorers in their most recent games. Those four, plus Rice, would certainly have provided help against a team like Wake. Obviously there are extenuating circumstances around every transfer and those have been discussed extensively in the cases of Maddox and Rice. But I have to wonder if there is some larger systematic or philosophical issue that is causing players of a certain type or skill set to feel they need to leave VT. Player movement is here to stay in the age of the portal and NIL, but at the P5 level you have to make sure you're at least treading water (hopefully upgrading) when guys come in and out of that revolving door. I'm not sure that VT is doing that right now.
