Disappointing loss. Path to NCAAT just got narrowed. Using PEARatings...
Simulator, to definitely be in the tournament, we would have to win out including a sweep of Clemson which seems like a tall task. If you simulate with a 2-1 series win against Clemson, it shows us with a #45 rating and they are projecting the bubble to be #44 so I think there is still an outside shot at getting in going 2-1 against Clemson but certainly not a guarantee.

We don’t have the bullpen to attempt to play with yesterday’s approach. I
realize that they’re trying to save arms for Clemson, but you still have to win these games or Clemson won’t matter.

It’s never safe to drink the Kool-Aid but I still think this can be a
tournament team. JMO

Pear simulates Clemson making the NCAAT with a 10-20 ACC record
after losing to FSU tomorrow and going 1-2 at VT. I don't see the committee putting Clemson in at 10-20 (likely last in the ACC) and leaving VT out at 15-15, especially with a series win over CLEM.

What if the Marshall game isn’t played?

Good question. Their simulator doesn't allow for removing the game...
It would likely be more beneficial to not play the game than to win it and based on how close we are to the bubble, a one or two spot different in ratings could be the difference.

That is so fundamentally wrong. Better to not play, than to win.
I understand including SOS in calculations. But when you have that kind of situation possible, where you would hope for a rainout as opposed to playing, it is patently obvious that there is something very fundamentally wrong with the formula. Now, if you had some kind of system where the predicted margin of victory (we'll call it, oh, 'The Spread') is not met, and you drop because you "didn't win by enough," that is a lot more understandable.

Then we should seriously consider canceling the game if we win tomorrow.
If we lose tomorrow I believe we are out unless we win the ACC Tournament which is very highly unlikely.

Agree, Marshall is a potential loss with preserving arms for Clemson.

Don't play the damn game if possible. Make up some phony excuse.

Interesting and sad commentary that the system puts us in....
No chance of rain on Tues in Huntington, so not sure how we'd get out of it.
