Filling the zone is a really good strategy, but if you're not pitching your best stuff, then you're going to get crushed.

Sadly, he's correct here. We have a lot of guys that can run it up to a reasonable velo.....and can hit an impressive spin rate....
But my goodness, when we miss, we miss badly......like right down broadway...
I've watched the staffs at Wake and Duke and UNC to name a few just nibble on the outside or under the hands until they figure out the umpire zone and they stay there..... We need to somehow change our approach on how we prepare for the mound...
I posed a question to some of my baseball friends before this tourney started......"How many runs will we have to score combined in the Duke and NC State games to win them both?"
I predicted 20 runs total........well, that would have won last night's game by 1 run.
We scored 8 and 9 runs respectively.
That offensive production should win games

exact same thing but he did it before me. Greg Maddux was a pitcher. Couldn't overpower anybody, but he nibbled and nibbled and kept you off balance. Lots of guys in college can throw it 90+ mph, but if you have no movement and can't hit the corners consistently you will get racked by today's batters. The one pitcher I can remember who had good movement on his fastball was Griffin Green, and I'm hoping/praying he can come back from that injury.

Hyperbolic & too reactionary during games of course, but I know what I see.
Fact is, there are lots of Tech fans who don’t like to hear the negatives of what I say if it’s about a Hokie player or program’s performance but if we were analyzing a rival many would agree with me. Few people can understand you can love a player and support a player but still give critiques of their weaknesses. Honestly that’s the way I was coached and I still love and revere my former coaches even though they were very critical at times, they just wanted to win just like me.
I definitely couldn’t coach now…people are too mentally soft and sensitive
