Looks like freshman RHP Andrew Kerns will be moving on...
Per post below on X/Twitter, he announced that he'll be moving on due to roster changes and being injured this fall.
He was someone I thought could have an impact this year given his age (reclassified from 2024 class), size and velocity (low-to-mid 90's) but if he was injured I guess the staff decided they needed to focus on developing other pitchers.
In any case, I expect we'll see a few more players moving on to get down to roster limits so we'll see who else doesn't make it to the spring roster.

Roster limit will be 34 starting next Fall, and all 34 are eligible to be on scholarship. That makes it tough - you really need 18-19 pitchers. No idea how many VT will actually fund, would guess the SEC will fund 34 with their $40 million/year advantage in TV revenue (see recent basketball results).

starting next year. D1Baseball had something a while back predicting most would be in the low 20's to get started. Not sure how accurate, but I've been hearing Tech would be closer to the current limit to get started.

Whit just said the entire Athletic Department would see an additional 40 -45 new scholarships, paling in comparison to the recently announced 150 that Clemson is funding. Correct me if I'm wrong but these new additions must be equally distributed between male and female sports. 22-23 or so for men, and an equal number for women makes it highly unlikely Hokie Baseball receives more than a handful of new scholarships at best, where teams like Clemson Baseball may get an additional 10--20 news scholarships.

they are close to equal footing here. SEC will be at or close to 34 very quickly, and throw in a few million in NIL to boot...they are bathing in cash...mid-majors will struggle to fund an extra handful.

SEC will dominate in ALL sports. They will fully fund all sports, and most others will be left behind. In the ACC, Clemson, UNC, and maybe FSU will probably fully fund all sports.

Teams have already begun leaning heavily on building rosters of mostly upperclassmen through their own ranks and the transfer portal. I expect this is exacerbated with the roster limits. I would think that at some point incoming freshmen will have such difficulty getting on the field at SEC and ACC schools that they may feel their best option is using mid majors and less-funded programs in bigger conferences as a "minor league" where they can get playing time and develop while showing off their abilities to the big programs who can pluck them away in the portal. Otherwise I think a lot of underclassmen talent is going to spoil waiting in the dugout for an opportunity.
