their 22.5 million roster was higher than FSU. and their QB was a high performer. UVa, unlike Miami, played for the conference title.

I know this has been the sentiment to the point it’s accepted as fact. But,
What about cam ward in different systems having success, sheduer sanders, Jalen hurts, Diego Pavia, chambliss from ole miss are all examples of players doing well with different coaches and in different levels of play.
Would Tranquill have ruined a Ben Rothlisberger (in a hypothetical transfer out of Miami of Ohio)? What about Byron Leftwich?
Is it possible Maurice DeShazo was no good for any other reason? Just for an academic review against the accepted facts?

good QBs regardless of their mobility have killed VT and, other teams
over the years. our LBs are not great so expect to see the QB running free to the safeties

yes but in this case Clemson has won the games. And we have
2016 acc cg appearance and then in 2019 if we beat UVA it would have been another (so we were close). And thats it (dismal since 2012). I am sure spending more on players will have an increased chance that more talented players will play in Blacksburg.

might be more interesting to look at their losses and what the second half
scores are like. They were a running, ball control type team which lends itself to closer games. The better teams could have worn them out with depth. I think Vandy is a situation that proves how important an efficient QB is to your whole team. Converting 3rd downs and moving the ball is the key to grinding out wins. Some teams still do it on the ground, even VT with Drones. Go back and watch the bowl game against undermanned Tulane....we needed some first downs in that game or else it could have been a different score.

To be fair he had some really good plays over the years. Do I recall him returning a punt for a TD against Pitt?

Many predicted 8-4 with a 10-2 season when every bounce went the right way.
This team could have beat Miami, Vandy and Rutgers. Should have Beat.
So a little better on oline, little better coverage, little better tackling and you get 9 wins. The team was close and the hype was correct.

They played against Clemson and lost. But not to be outdone,
They also lost to Vandy, Rutgers, and Duke?
For good measure they also lost to Cuse and got close but broke no records. Unless there is a record for the RT whiffing percentage….we broke that one.

Drones to Benji is a middle of the field play and it went for a TD.
We were not running the ball effectively enough to pressure that space behind the backers and in front of the safeties.
I do think we will be running the ball effectively in the DOME. Malachi has fresh and capable legs and Tuten will be healthy.

two years ago we had the worst team I can remember since 1995. So this is
not remotely comparable. GT is a good team regardless of their QB. Every one in the ACC is beatable except Clemson (they really are better than anyone right now).

He is a very fun player to watch when healthy. but, Drones is healthier and I like our guy too.

If we win out then I can take whatever result occurs. Lets see us beat
Cuse and Clemson. Its hard to beat teams with good QBs and those teams both can give our D fits.
Pitt has a good QB too and I don't think SMU is unbeatable.

Those things start to play a role in the outcomes. Our team has depth and experience: only thing left to do is win.
Gallo, Jennings, stroman, Lawson, ghannam, moore are all starters who have been injured and that has effected us already.

He continues to show me something: The guy plowed through the 4th and 1
and scored a touchdown (post game interview stated that he told his coach he was going to score) while smashing through his own blocker first and then squeezing through two defenders before lunging into the end zone. That is actually the type of runner we need - Downhill in short yardage and scoring TDs. If the oline continues to get better then Tuten will actually get less carries and become more productive (we will need him to return a kickoff for a score soon). We also need Malachi Thomas to get carries. He had a nice one late in the game where he broke a tackle, ran to daylight and then smashed a DB for a big gain.
Also need Jennings to make an impact. Gosnell, Felton and Lane our warmed up.....time for Jennings to show out (he was supposed to be the alpha in the group).

Realistic. 9-3 is top 25, 8-4 probably not, 10-2 (which I think we need another factor back and older oline) was never really going to happen. But the players can decide to rip off 14 straight anytime now.
