Posting History (89)

Diminishing returns, more money often just means more waste

Indiana just won it all with a bunch of 3 stars, Prioritizing team and experience.

Hawaii Bowl was great entertainment last night

A glimpse into how great bowl season used to be. Playoffs have cheapened the sport. I miss bowl season, the BCS, and the controversy. It set the sport apart. Even if VT won a national championship now it wouldn’t feel as great as the 99 run fueled by innovation( special teams) , a dynamic playmaker( Vick) , and hard work. Now the title can simply be bought.

Don’t see the point

I believe it’s already established you need to be conference champion and ranked within the top 25 to be eligibility. I suspect the ranking committee will be more rigorous with the top 25 rankings moving forward. You can’t have the 125th ranked schedule and argue you are being left out. Nobody is preventing the G5 from stepping up and playing P4 teams with a pulse. They won’t because they know it’s an L.

Why bother

None of the G5 conference champions deserve a top 25 ranking. Keep them out of the the top 25 so we dont have to endure these yearly blowouts.

Non P4 probably can’t win a single playoff game

A few more blowouts and it will be the end of the failed experiment for non P4 access to the tournament

Agreed

We all want Tony to remain at UVA and sign a multi year extension. If it takes congratulating him on the ability to sign an NIL check I’m here for it.

Chesney should be option A

When you can buy players with NIL you need a gameday coach not a used car salesman

So they fired him mid season for no reason

Or they know his skill set doesn’t translate to NIL and the changing game of college football. How about a little critical thinking.

I’ll go with Penn State and their administration

They worked with Franklin day in and day out and determined he ain’t worth the money

Dumpster diving for safe bet in Franklin

Reminds me of the lazy hire in Fuente when Whit bought an Athlons magazine and went after the #1 listed coach.

Or those 5* made Saban

He was a below average NFL coach, with NIL it is foolish to spend 10 million on a head coach.

None of these guys are worth 10million

Not a single one of these coaches make decisions or add value to justify, especially with NIL, id rather pay half that and put the money saved into the coach’s support staff

Exactly

I’d rather spend less on the head coach and more on the overall staff. We overpaid for Fu and had little left for coordinators and staff. Another brilliant move by Nitwhit. ** Edited by kinghokie at 10/12/2025, 4:37:02 PM

Athletic Directors love spending other peoples money.

Makes their job really easy to throw money at a β€œbig name” to make everyone happy. Beats the hard work required to identify the skill set, negotiate a reasonable contract, and find coaching talent.

Why are you saying a lost season.?

Just beat NC state at home and undefeated in ACC play. Just got considerable better at head coach and all the dead weight players have opted out.

Not crazy at all

I’d argue you would have the same chance at success hiring from the lower ranks of college football. No evidence that throwing money at a head coach equal success. It’s a crap shoot. I’d rather lower what we are spending on the head coach and put that money into assistants, size of staff, and infrastructure.

No AD has tried

ADs love the system because it helps line their pockets as well. With failure rate so high not much downside gambling on an unknown.

Federal law requires a percentage be put into continued improvements

Most businesses do not know this and are not in compliance. ** Edited by kinghokie at 9/11/2025, 4:27:38 PM

I think so.

With some more resources Fu would have been successful.

The Lounge 2 y ago

Or a misunderstanding of reality as represented in your post

They are raiding a former president and his secret service detail, it doesn’t take a high IQ individual to realize standard procedure is out the window ** Edited by kinghokie at 7/14/2024, 1:19:11 AM

With 70 plus schools plenty of money to start your own network

Great opportunity for all the schools left out to rethink college sports ** Edited by kinghokie at 2/4/2024, 11:07:04 AM

Agreed

Let them play in another pro league. Brand the remaining schools as authentic college football. Find a way to get a handle on NIL and set a cap on number of staff and coaching salaries.

Where is NIL money coming from?

Are any of these NIL β€œvaluations” real? Totally up all these β€œ deals” would exceed what an athletic department could raise. Rattler getting 2 mil cash doesn’t seem plausible.

Really?

Who cheats better then us… nobody!

Great question

I don’t think the ruling was intended to simply pay all players and destroy amateur athletics. Outside of a couple top college players their value is the school name on the uniform. If these athletes started their own semi pro league it would fail.

Awesome

Will enjoy this more than the nonsense we are fed on Monday night disguised as college football. Hopefully the college presidents with integrity get rid of the nil nonsense and return to amateur athletics.

For about 120 teams the whole season is exhibition games

Should everyone opt out after the first loss. Imo the real reason is less about injury and more about getting their own spotlight and hyping their importance during bowl season. The tik tok generation.

Not a good analogy

The chance of injury is so small that they are just as likely to have a good bowl outing and increase their value headed into the draft. I’d be interested to see data on players who ruined or even damaged an nfl career by opting out of a bowl. Most horrific bowl injury I can think of is Willis Mcgahee, still was a first round pick.

Yep

In the era of nil and fluid rosters it’s year to year. ya gotta put all your chips in when the stars align. The era of team building is over. Let’s get some portal players to fill gaps and make a run ** Edited by kinghokie at 12/17/2023, 9:07:55 AM

Agreed

I’m getting more and more interested in these lower divisions. I wish espn would platform and hype these games. ** Edited by kinghokie at 12/16/2023, 9:42:21 AM

Naive to think the playoff committee has anything resembling criteria

The committee has shown no consistency with their selections. ** Edited by kinghokie at 12/3/2023, 10:13:15 PM ** Edited by kinghokie at 12/3/2023, 10:13:42 PM ** Edited by kinghokie at 12/3/2023, 10:28:44 PM ** Edited by kinghokie at 12/3/2023, 10:29:40 PM
