I am also a proud graduate of Virginia Tech and was also once an
emotionally invested fan, but while I’ve watched schools that appeared to be in a similar spot to Tech 10-20 years ago (Clemson) invest in their programs and grow their programs, all I’ve seen in Blacksburg the last decade have been poor decisions, a lack of direction, and constant disappointment. Now we pay millions of dollars to coaches and pay kids to play. These same kids can, at the drop of a hat, pull up stakes, jump in the portal, and go play immediately for more money the next state over, and we get to see how they perform leaps and bounds better than they do at Tech. That shows a disappointing lack of loyalty that was once a huge part of the College game, but more than that, it shows that the leadership in Blacksburg doesn’t know or doesn’t care enough to get the most out of the talent they have. If leadership doesn’t care, if the kids don’t care, why should I lose sleep over it. The college game isn’t the college game anymore. It’s a pro league and the leadership at Tech doesn’t have what it takes to compete in a pro league. Until they show some signs of any kind of desire, will, or ability to play with the rest of the big conference teams, I’m done. I don’t mean win every game, but at least be competitive. I’ll watch the games that I can when I don’t have anything better to do, but more and more frequently, there’s a lot that is more important to do than watch an inferior product with my schools logo stamped on it. I love Tech. I love Blacksburg. I loved Hokie football, but what I have watched the last two weeks isn’t Hokie football. And that’s all I’ve got to say about that.

You would think Netflix could have used the last year to upgrade their
servers. This is pretty much unwatchable. Constant buffering and spinning wheel.

I agree with 4 to 5. You have 2 timeouts really to work with because you’d
need to pocket one to use before the field goal, 3 quick drop back and at least assuming your passing to the sideline. Not even trying was awful. Playing not to lose, plain and simple.

You can be a loyal fan and still want change in the coaching staff.
A real fan wants their program to be successful and if the coaching staff is responsible consistently for losses due to bad playcalling, bad game/clock management, etc., then fans are justified in wanting a change. Supporting a coaching staff that is clearly incapable of achieving even the minimum success required is not something I would demand of any real fan. I’m loyal to the success of the program, not to any individual or group of coaches. I could be wrong, but it looked like even the Syracuse players were shocked when we walked to the sideline to let those final 30 seconds tick off in the second half. That’s the moment that convinced me that Pry needs to go.

Sucks if he’s out, but it’s football. Next guy has to step up. Feel bad
for him though. I don’t think he was hurt in “garbage” time, but Thomas could have taken those snaps.

I think we win big tonight. I base this solely on the fact that everyone
always thinks Da U is back until they lose a game badly that they shouldn’t lose. We’re that game this season. I refuse to believe Da U is back. Da U can never be back.

I’m confident we’re watching ODU’s video board and listening to two guys
They pulled from a tailgate an hour before kick

This video is like when you could watch untelevised games on the ACC
website but all you got was the stadiums video board feed. Like 10 years ago or so?

That I know of, I haven’t had it. I’ve been pretty sick with fever and
cough twice since the start of Covid. Both times, I tested negative at home and at urgent care. If you had told me either time was Covid, I would have absolutely believed it.

College Football 25 is pretty awesome. The generic entrance music that is
in place of Enter Sandman isn’t that bad. The game itself is great. I have seriously missed this series.

Problem is, most of the malls that would make me nostalgic for the 80’s
or 90’s have either closed down or are ghost towns. Today’s malls that actually have high traffic don’t compare to the malls from back in the day.

I have no issue with gun ownership, but for me, I don’t know that I could
deal with carrying. I’ve got too much Barney Fife in me and probably have equal chance of hurting myself as I do hurting someone trying to harm me.

At the time it didn’t really phase me, but what’s sticking with me is the
level of anger this guy and his family seemed to have. First time I think I’ve encountered someone that seemed to want to cause me harm or worse. He seemed to think his reaction was perfectly normal, and I think the fact that I didn’t acknowledge him after that initial wave just made him more angry. I was fully expecting him to follow me further at which point I would have ended up calling the police.

I like the cake more than the cookies, but I’m usually there once a week.
I don’t eat sweets during the week but will indulge on the weekends.

Follow up on yesterday, how many of you still regularly go to the mall?
Family wanted to go to H&M yesterday, which was the only reason we went. Otherwise, we normally don’t go near the mall. As a kid and teen, the mall was a weekly outing with either my parents or friends. We do go to Disney Springs now quite a bit, but that’s more to get cookies from Gideons or eat at the Boathouse or Blaze Pizza and not really to shop. I don’t really consider Disney Springs a mall in the traditional sense anyway.
My incident yesterday happened at Millennia in Orlando, which I generally don’t enjoy going to. Yesterday just made me like it less.

Thing is, I never honked my horn. Even when the guy started brake checking
me, i just slowed to keep my distance and continued on. Hopefully all of that stupidness made him feel better. I’m writing it off as “guy was having a bad day.” He set a wonderful example for what I assume were his teenage kids in the backseat.

Can’t say it ever did, but narco road blocks do. Plus I was visiting 4-5
prisons a month as part of the job, so can’t say I really miss it.

Sounds horrifying. I agree, FL drivers are the worst…
B+… the road ragers looked like a middle aged dad, his wife, and two teenagers, but it made me laugh anyway.

Only option. Not going to make a fool of myself in front of my family.
Worst case, guy could have been nuts and pulled a gun or something. Not putting my wife and kids in harms way.

Wife wanted me to pull into a parking lot to get off the road and away from
him, so the fact i didn’t did irritate her. My thought was, keep driving because he could still follow into a parking lot and potentially escalate further. If he had kept following me, my next move was to plug a police station into the gps and pull in there.

Had my first experience with road rage today…
Was leaving a mall. I was exiting my parking row, waiting to be able to turn onto another road in the parking lot to head towards the exit. I saw the line of cars on the road I needed to turn onto stop as a car signaled to turn left into the row I was exiting, so I started to move out to turn left in front of the car stopped behind the turning car. Again, he was stopped waiting for the car in front to finish his turn and I took the opportunity to join the line heading towards the exit.
The car I turned in front of laid on the horn and flipped me the bird. I smiled and waved and moved on. Mea culpa if he didn’t feel like letting me turn. He stayed on my bumper continuing to honk his horn and flip me off. Two people in the back seat them extended their middle fingers out the rear windows. The honking never stopped.
We finally got to the exit and turned out. He passed me slowly pulled alongside me growling angrily, still flipping me off and honking. Eventually passed me and started brake checking me, all the while with middle fingers out the windows and the horn still blaring. At the next light, we turned in opposite directions.
My question, what was this guy’s goal? Why did me turning in front of him while he was stopped anger him so much. Even if I cut the guy off and slammed my brakes in front of him (not what happened) why the 5 minutes of middle fingers and honking and brake checking? What was the point? Was he trying to start a fight? Freaked my family out. I tried to just ignore and drive but certainly didn’t appreciate all the noise and obscenities with my family in the car.

Those prompts for tips are obnoxious. Maybe im cheap, but counter service
rarely deserves a tip. Subway kills me. It’s fast food. Why would I tip you? We went to a Cici’s pizza recently. It’s a pizza buffet yet the machine not only prompted me to tip, but the cashier said “Now it’s going to ask how much you want to tip us for all we do to give you a great experience.” Really? At a Cici’s? It’s a buffet. No one is waiting on me. I fill and refill my own drink. I serve my own food. The place is not the cleanest. I normally tip 20% for a table service restaurant, but I have a hard time understanding why I should have to tip at Subway, Crumbl Cookie, when I pick up a pizza to take home, etc.

We spend a lot of time in and around Disney, and they ditched plastic
straws a while ago. Some places have the cardboard straws (probably not cardboard, but similar). Some have straws made from avocado. The avocado straws are the closest to standard plastic straws I’ve seen. They don’t get soggy, don’t taste weird. I have no idea what the cost to produce them is, but if it isn’t astronomical, they will become the straw of choice moving forward IMO.

I was there for the Eric Green punt block. There was no SEZ (still under
construction) and my ears were still ringing for at least 5 minutes after that block. It was similar to being at a rock concert near the speakers/amps. It was ridiculously loud when that play happened. I wasnt at the Nebraska game which a lot of people say was loud, but that punt block may be the most memorable play I witnessed in person.

Ford Fairmont, ‘80 or ‘81. First car I remember riding in. It never ran
right and the interior was awful.

Would have made more sense as a sequel to Haloween…
If you get rid of Haloween Kills, Michael gets burned up at the end of Halloween but escapes to the sewers where he chills for a few years to get back in killing form and heal (yeah, they did that before between Haloween 4 and 5 I think?). Everyone else goes on with their lives. You can still have the Corey storyline, and even that Corey interaction with Michael, which finally brings Michael out of the sewers. My issue is, given how unstoppable and immortal Michael was at the end of Kills, why was he so weak at the start of this film? Michael’a fate at the junkyard was a little bit of overkill IMO. Probably something JLC put in her contract in order for her to sign on for this trilogy. I seem to remember that was part of her deal for H2O too even though it didn’t end up working out when they put out the awful Resurrection film.

I enjoyed it. Didn’t think I would based on the first 30 minutes or so, but
overall it was good. Thought the ending felt a little rushed, like they spent so much time developing the Corey character that the battle with Michael at the end went way too fast. I don’t think they need to make another one at this point. This was far better than Halloween Kills.
Spoilers…
If Michael was shown to be superhuman and basically immortal in the ending of Halloween Kills (something I did not like since the first film of this trilogy kind of went out of its way to show he was just an old guy), how did Laurie kill him so easily in this movie?

I knew we would have a tough year. I don’t mind losing, but it really
stings that we aren’t even competitive.

I’m in Kissimmee. The lake behind our house made it to the edge of our
yard, so it traveled about 15 feet. A ton of rain here. Still can’t get out of the neighborhood because the entrance is under water. A couple of people were kayaking down the street yesterday. Water has gone down a bit though. Luckily no water got in our house. Miraculously did not lose power, and we have plenty of food in the house. Lots of downed leaves, limbs. A ton of bottles that people have thrown into the lake over the years are now in my back yard. Could have been much worse. Prayers for anyone along the coast near or where Ian made landfall.

Yeah. Apparently if they took it back, they miss a window early next week.
Next window is early October but Launchpad is occupied by Spacex. So mid October it is.

Really? Lost a game we were supposed to win. Turnovers. The other team
scoring a special teams touchdown. Felt the same to me, even the feeling that “we might get away with a win despite the turnovers” only to lose it late.

This game reminded me a lot of a game we played at ECU 10 or so years ago
early in the season. VT threw two interceptions. ECU returned a blocked punt to win 27-22. It sucked, and we were ranked 17th going into that game. So yeah, yesterday sucked like a lot of other games have sucked in the past. Does it mean the rest of the year will suck? Maybe. Probably. Maybe not. Who knows? This season could be disappointing, but let’s be real. Fuente burned this place to the ground. We have a first year head coach, who wants to build the program back up, who buys into the Hokie traditions, but it’s going to take a while. Hopefully we can be contenders for the ACC in 3-5 years, which would have us contending for a playoff spot as of 2026, and that would be cool. It takes a while to put out a dumpster fire, and just as long or longer to build something better in place of the dumpster.

I've used iPhones on and off since they first debuted...
Regarding your questions:
1. No, you aren't stuck with the default keyboard. Install something like SwiftKey and you can get the numbers on the top row.
2. At least on my 12 Pro, I can go into the Safari settings and put the Url bar and back button on the bottom. That's how I have it set up.
3. Apple pay is hit or miss but usually I've found its an issue with the terminal and not the phone. Since my debit card taps to pay anyway, I've found little use for Apple Pay. I could do it with my Apple Watch, but I'm too lazy to try and figure that out.
