Welcome to Hokie Central.

Posting History (5,131)

Valid point, of course.

Then, in mobile mode, which is where long posts cause the most grief, you can collapse threads, roll right past his initial long post, and not have to scroll through more long posts that are all displayed because they're thread starters. But ... I'm done teaching people how to use the boards. I'm just banning people now. If you don't intuitively understand good message board etiquette, it's not my job, or the job of your fellow posters, to educate you.

Congratulations, you just earned a 3-month ban.

This isn't your own personal playground to spam with your repeated rants. Yeah, I get that it's all about different recruiting classes, blah blah blah. What you need to get, as I've repeatedly said, is that I'm sick of people trashing these boards. I'm handing out bans these days like Oprah hands out cars.

TSL Audio: Andy Bitter on The Fast Lane, 6-24-2026

TechSideline.com reporter Andy Bitter joined The Fast Lane on Wednesday, June 24 and discussed: - If the hire of new AD Brian White has "James Franklin" written all over it? - How much of the process and vision of hiring AD Brian White is what Virginia Tech needs? - How committed is Virginia Tech to shifting from "do more with less" to "do more with more?" - Can Virginia Tech expect a boost in athletic department fundraising & revenue generation similar to what AD Brian White oversaw at FAU? - Is Virginia Tech getting more of a salesman + businessman as an Athletic Director (compared to the past AD prototype of being an academic & administrative person)? - Whose schedule wish is more likely to come true for Virginia Tech fans: Andy Bitter's (Tennessee) or Chris Coleman's (West Virginia)?

From an all-sports standpoint, the SEC is thriving.

The SEC has 9 of the top 18 finishers in the Directors' Cup standings: 1. Texas 6. Florida 8. Georgia 12. Texas A&M 13. Alabama 14. Arkansas 15. Tennessee 16. Oklahoma 18. LSU Big Ten has 5 of the top 18 ACC has 4 of the top 18 (plus #19 Notre Dame) I realize we're talking NIL, which largely goes to FB and MBB, and they didn't win championships in either, to your point. Sorry to hijack the thread. :)

How many people thought a year ago ...

... that Tobi would be getting drafted in 2026 and Neo would not? (This is not a shot at Neo. It's just an observation.)

There are several resources for finding this out.

1.) Consult Wikipedia. It's unlikely that they'll have a Pedro Phillips page, but you never know. 2.) Google "Pedro Phillips Virginia Tech stats" -- you'll find that sports-reference.com has a Pedro Phillips page, and that's when you find out that it's spelled with an "a", not an "e": https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/padro-philli... 3.) Google "Virginia Tech letter winners" and that will take you to the hokiesports.com Football Letter Winners page, linked below. That's where you find out that Padro -- it is indeed spelled with an "a," which I didn't know -- lettered from 1979-1982. Given that we know that Bruce played at Tech from 1981-1984, then yes, Padro was a little before Bruce, but there were two seasons of overlap. 4.) Ask @PadrosWindup ... he would know.

What in the world has gotten into you?

If you don't like his opinion, then refute it with discussion and making your own points. Don't call him "BS," then circle around the next day to call him BS again, and THEN threaten him with "Challenge me and I will destroy you" and "I will come at you." I've been pretty clear that I an completely DONE with the crap the fills our message boards. Done. Six-month ban for you, and if you decide you want to be civil after those six months, then you're welcome back. Everyone else take note. I'm not giving much thought to handing out bans. In the last 2-3 weeks, I have banned personal friends and a lifetime subscriber. I don't care anymore.

Beyond the Pail, Episode 5: Great VT defensive ends

Presented by Lunch Pail Ventures: In our latest episode, we discuss great Hokie defensive ends with former Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster. (64 minutes).

The free football board here is pretty dead (relatively speaking).

The subscriber board is very busy during football season. So, it's WAY more than a 2-1 ratio.

Well, consider the time frame. It includes MBB season, but not FB season.

If you switch the dates to 7/1/2025 through 12/31/2025, you get: Virginia Tech Football Board: 49,396 Virginia Tech Basketball Board: 10,820 So there you go.

I can do that, yes.

But I have other tools for sniffing them out as well. I don't always see them right away, but re-registrants usually reveal themselves over time.

Many times it's easier to just delete the post that started the thread.

That wipes out the scores of political comments below it, even if your particular post wasn't political.

Not to be a jerk about it but you clearly didn't read closely.

I've said multiple times, including in that article, there's going to be a subscriber lounge created, and that I will have the ability to move post from onr board to another easily. That's going to take care of that problem. There's no sense raising a stink about it now until we get the new boards launched. If the new site and new boards are delayed until after football season, then I will raise a stink about it and take care of the problem now. But we anticipate launching the new site in a month or two, and I don't see the point in doing it right now.

Yeah, I guess I'm seeing it because I'm an admin.

In the new message board system on the new site, I believe I've coded it so that users can see their deleted posts (but other users can't) and can see their ban history (as opposed to just the latest ban occurrence.)

Nine.

But one of those was because it was posted on the wrong board. It's really easy to find out ... click your username in a post (which loads your profile) and scroll down to the Deleted Posts section. It can get a little confusing, and here's why: if I delete a post and type in a reason, then every response to that post also gets deleted, with the same reason. So the offender might actually be someone else, and you got caught up in the shrapnel. But if there's a political thread going on, and you partake in it, and the deletion of someone else's posts results in your response being deleted, well then, you should have stayed away from it in the first place.

Rocovich thread deleted. List of bans just handed out ...

@Windows NT: permanent. You've had 50+ posts deleted over the years. Not sure why I kept you this long. @JRHokie: permanent. You've had about 20 posts deleted as well (I'm shocked it's not more), and you rarely add anything substantive to the discussion, just snide, vague comments. (This one was difficult, folks, because I've known JRHokie personally for many years, I just don't want to put up with his posts anymore.) @Gobbler-100: permanent. You've had 80 or so posts deleted over the years. EIGHTY. (Also difficult. Gobbler-100's dad was very generous with me, and that's why I gave him a long rope. Enough is enough. 80 is a big number.) @VTFinance10: permanent. You've also had 20 posts deleted over the years and dabble in political discussions frequently. No more. @Blueboy: permanent. 20 posts deleted over the years for a multitude of reasons. If any of you were subscribers, then you would know from my postings on the subscriber board and from my comments in my recent Friday Q&A that I am done with the message board BS. DONE. I've always tried to be a nice guy, but I'm not being a nice guy anymore. A cleanup of the boards is long overdue and now ongoing. Add value to the boards and avoid political discussions, or you're gone. It's pretty simple. ** Edited by Will Stewart at 6/12/2026, 11:21:52 AM

Recruiting database is currently broken.

I have informed the programmer, and no fix appears to be forthcoming. He is focusing his efforts this summer on getting the new website launched, which will of course have a working recruiting DB.

You sure you got the right sport?

VT MBB won the ACC Tournament in 2022. No one was apathetic back then. :)

The Lounge 1 mo ago

Checking: anyone else having trouble posting images today?

I can't post from a remote URL or from local hard drive on my desktop.

I wish they'd show that movie more often.

All they show now is the version by The Rock. I like The Rock, but I'd rather see the original.

Yeah, after sleeping on it ...

I think you're right. I think he made the decision independent of UCLA's first game.

To me it's pretty obvious.

After UCLA lost, Szefc gambled that Eisenreich could beat Cal Poly, thus saving Renfro for UCLA. He gambled and lost.

Dude had VT batters guessing

Very little contact if any by Virginia Tech hitters in that inning.

Oof. CP pitcher is nasty early.

Skinny as hell at 6-6, 185, but there were a lot of swings and misses by Hokie batters.

Nice start. Cal Poly did not deserve to score.

HBP, seeing eye infield hit. Glad Eisenreich was able to sit them down.
