It finally blew up today with talks over the no video access for the game, even resulting in Damian Salas making a comment about kicking someone out of it in reference to having a student with a phone sit behind home plate. This is crazy; I’ve never seen such outrage over something so innocuous. I agree the games should be streamed, but it’s crazy that it has blown up so much that people in athletics are making comments on people’s ideas. Hopefully, they get the idea.

Howdy swordsman1, I was under the impression that the playing of Dixie by the HT stopped after the early 70s. Also, could you expand upon your claim that the state banned the playing because that would be news to me, with all documentation I've seen from the 70s was that the Commandant banned it, not Dr. Hahn

I agree with you that the split of D1 in the late 70s helped to kill the rivalry, but we argue that the rivalry started to die even earlier than that with looks at the end of the game being played in Roanoke, the introduction of a civilian male student body in the mid-60s, and other factors.

Howdy everyone, "The Collapse of a Southern Classic" is an undergraduate thesis documentary that examines the end of the football rivalry between Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) and Virginia Military Institute (VMI) from the mid-1960s to the early 1980s. This documentary focuses on VPI's actions that led to the rivalry's demise. We have been working on this documentary since early August of last year and are excited to be publishing the documentary in the coming weeks. Some interviewees of note include Frank Beamer, Homer Hickam, and David Braine. All sounds and videos, except for the narration, come from original primary sources such as home movies, as well as videos and photos for publication.
