The going rate to secure a borderline top-50 recruit like Rice is $75k-ish per year. To put that in perspective, that's about 5% of MY's net pay (after taxes) or less than 4% of the value of a single NCAAT unit. Anyone that isn't buying NCAA MBB recruits must be a booster base/staff comprised of morons.

Then the only question is how much to bias recent results vs. entire season. Diamond sports were the first to lean heavily on analytics, and I imagine that's true even at the college level.

Just MNF and a small fraction of its MLB games. Although they've done a few CFB in 4K games per year (playoffs and some SEC matchups). At least with YTTV, the ESPN stream isn't highly-compressed like on Dish/DTV. The pixelation of the field on Dish used to drive me crazy.

Many local network affiliates broadcast over-the-air in uncompressed 1080i, which when combined with a quality video processor (i.e. non-entry Onkyo/Denon/etc. AVR), produces a really nice picture for sports.

I've personally never watched any football game where you could read the names on the backs of jerseys in the 22-man camera angle (and I have a 110" screen). That's pretty sad, considering where the technology could/should be. But the networks don't think anyone will pay extra for high resolution, so they typically broadcast garbage.

My prediction: they'll actually get temporary bleachers installed in time, but they'll do all the ticketing solely through some dysfunctional app. And we'll see dozens of angry posts here from diehard VT softball fans that can't get in the gates while those bleachers sit mostly unused.

If Mutts returns, I also feel pretty good about returning to the dance next year, since the backcourt will surely improve year-over-year (even though our starting center will surely be a step down from Aluma).

I can virtually guarantee that say $250k/yr for softball NIL plus $250k/yr for coach salary (the minimum Pete should be making now) should produce more wins than $500k/yr solely for coach salary.

The scary thing is that OK pays their coach $1mil/yr and their softball boosters can probably support more NIL $ than VT's, also.

NIL won't change much at the top (for any sport), but smart allocation of resources can help programs like VT stay in the "Best of the rest".
