That sounds more like a local weather forecast. Could be as little as 1
inch, probably 2, but could be as much as 4.

Just curious-How do you know this? Is it published somewhere or do you have
inside sources?
Not casting aspersions, Iβm just genuinely curious.

Loser mentality. Used to be teams wanted to play as long as possible to
remain a team as long as possible. Now everyone is all for themselves. True competitors donβt go out like this.
Guess we know now why we never were as good as we should have been.

When a team has an underachieving season like the Hokies just had, every
single facet of the program needs to be thoroughly evaluated.
We all know that NIL lags behind other teams in the ACC (rumors are that itβs getting a pretty good increase), but what else can be done to improve the program besides money?
First, all indications are that Mike Young will return next year, so where can he improve? Should he totally revamp the system he believes in and has coached for most of, if not the entirety of, his career? Does he need to change his recruiting philosophy? Does he need to bring in some different assistants? Do offseason workouts need to be changed? Do in season practices need to be revised? Does he need to be more active in fundraising for the program? I would assume that heβs thought of most of these things, or at least I hope so.
Second, do changes need to be made in the support staff and/or their respective responsibilities? Is the strength and conditioning program effective? Are the nutritionists making the most of the new Athletic Performance Center? Is the training and medical staff giving the players the best up-to-date care? Is the Chief of Staff a help or a hindrance?
Third, we all know that a new arena or a makeover of Cassell is probably never going to happen or is a few years (perhaps many years) down the road. How can the positives of our facilities be accentuated? In my opinion, even though Cassell is old, itβs far from a dump and, when full, is one of the most intimidating venues in college basketball.
Iβm sure there are things Iβve forgotten, but you get my drift. Leave no stone unturned. The program is not cursed, the league and officials are not involved in some grand conspiracy against us, and weβre not doomed to mediocrity or worse because of our geographic location.
No one said itβs going to be easy, but it can be done. Itβs past time to get started.

Very good and insightful post. I had this very conversation with someone
yesterday. To anyone who would argue that weβre above average, I would submit this as proof to the contrary.

I donβt think itβs going to help us. Pretty sad that we have to root for
the Hoos in the hope that it will help us.

Were the fans at GW and Oklahoma garbage human beings as well? I didnβt,
and wonβt, boo Avdalas, but I will vociferously question Youngβs decision to keep starting him and playing him so many minutes.
I donβt know you, but it seems that you go above and beyond in defending EVERY decision that MY makes. Is that because you happen to have attended the same college (now university) that he did? At times it sure seems that way. Does that make him immune to criticism?
You act as if anyone who disagrees with you is a basketball illiterate or a MY hater. Sometimes one or both of those things may be true, but not nearly all the time.
What Iβm about to say next is not intended to offend, but is only an observation. Many times you come across as a know it all. Iβm sure, in your mind, that you donβt see it that way and view it as only defending your opinions based upon your past experiences. I get it, but perhaps your comments would receive a better reception if they were delivered in a less condescending manner. Just a thought.
Anyway, I hope you have a great evening and enjoy the rest of your weekend with your family.

Come on Summerville! Donβt you know that he has been a Hokie fan since 1892
and was a personal friend of Hunter Carpenter, Frank Loria, Bruce Smith, and a score of other great Hokies, not to mention an advisor to every head coach except Justin Fuente and Brent Pry who he knew were destined for failure.
The guy is a legend in his own mind.

He didnβt get snubbed. Itβs pretty well known that he never had a desire to
come back to VT to be the head coach. I have nothing against Shane, but on Sunday he is coaching the opposing team. I hope we beat them like a rented mule.

Talk about lack of awareness, VT Athletics posted a video of βhighlightsβ
against Boston College. Geez!

If we play like we did tonight, it could very well happen. That was a
terrible loss to a bad team.
The Miami game will be a gut check for this team. From my perspective, the level of effort tonight was sorely lacking. Maybe a number of them were ill; I guess weβll see. It sure made me sick watching it.

It seems that to a lot of fans, the game itself is secondary-the
party atmosphere is what is most important. Doing whatever is necessary to get on the Jumbotron and taking selfies to post on social media is the primary focus. And this is not just the younger fans. Middle aged and above people are doing it, too.
The volume of the music is just downright obnoxious. My ears are ringing after each stoppage of play due to the over amplified music and microphones used for the fan games, etc.
Iβll admit that Iβm old and nostalgic. I miss the atmosphere that used to exist in Lane and Cassell-the one where people were there to cheer on the team. Those days have passed and, in my opinion, will never return.
I think itβs about time for me to stop attending live games and simply watch from the comfort of my living room. Change is inevitable, but not all change is for the better. In my opinion, and this is MY opinion (I understand if people disagree as it is their right), the new landscape of college sports, including the atmosphere in the stadiums and arenas, has damaged what was once a great experience.

Personally, Iβm tired of hearing about βpersonality fitβ. I want a
competent coach. I would much rather have Bill OβBrien.

I would add the fact that we play passive football. No aggression on either
the offensive or defensive sides of the ball.

Thanks for the clarification. Iβm still not convinced that the injury to
Long accounts for all, or even most, of the defensive woes.

On a major D1 basketball team, the loss of one player who came off the
bench shouldnβt cause a drop of 126 spots.

Team Defensive Efficiency Rating of
176. A big (probably the biggest reason) for our lackluster season.
Itβs fine to have shooters, but we need to find some guys who can play defense.

LOL, we werenβt on the bubble! Itβs been evident for some time that this
is not a tournament worthy team.
