Million instead of Billion? I checked the link and
it looks like this chart should be Millions instead of Billions. Or, I completely missed something (not unusual).

I don't think there's really an answer to that question:
Play calling and player talent need each other to win consistently. But, it takes time to improve player talent. Play calling can be improved in time for the next play.

Just a random thought. The person calling the plays for the offense
is like the sound guy for a band. No band sounds good without a good soundman, and a good sound guy can make an average band sound pretty good.

I'm thinking they are limiting this Complaint to
requesting that the court order enforcement of the arbitration clause, and that they'll make any other claims/arguments in arbitration, or in a second Complaint if the court doesn't order arbitration.

Link to the actual pleadings if anyone is interested.
Click on the "Complaint" pdf in the Case Events section.

There's nothing I respect more than people
who keep at it when it doesn't seem like there's a reason to keep at it. My hat's off to coach Montgomery and "the whole damn team". They kept working under the toughest of circumstances, and deserve a ton of credit for it.

I remember. Much like what's going on now,
hiring Dooley reflected a commitment to taking the football program to the next level, in that when it came to his coaching resume Dooley was a "next level" kind of coach for VT. As far as what's happening now, it almost doesn't matter if our next coach is Franklin or not -- I think what matters is that we've committed to an investment in the program that allows us to hire a coach with his kind of resume. In any case, here's hoping whoever we hire isn't "next level" in the rule-bending sense that Dooley was.

Can't decide whether its a good thing
or a bad thing that they refer to VT as a "historic" college football program. I'm going with good thing.
(And lay-off grammar police, I know, and it was a personal choice.)

I'll by the occasional lottery ticket
when the jackpot approaches $1B and place an occasional $5 or $10 bet on college football -- usually on something where the odds are against me but with a high payout if I win. One bet that I've made and won a few times is a half-time bet on a game with 2 fairly evenly matched teams where the score is 21 - 0 at half-time. I'll bet on the team with 0 to win the game. If memory serves, I've won 3 out of 4 times on that bet. I think the team that's up 21 - 0 must tend to get too comfortable in the 2nd half. All started many years ago when VT was down 21 - 0 at the half (I think it we were playing Duke) and I doubled up and won on a bet with a friend for a 6 pack.

As always, at the beginning of the year
I think we have a chance to be pretty good -- maybe in the discussion for a shot at the ACC championship game. Of course, that's what I always think at the beginning of the year. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing the changes the new coordinators bring to both the offense and the defense. Hoping for a more aggressive and harder hitting D, and a tough but unpredictable O (mostly because that's the kind of football I like). Let's Go!

Does anyone have a link to
the Enter Sandman entrance video where the tv announcer says something like, " they are jumping, they are yelling, and its been this way for 30 minutes". I want to send it to a friend in England.

I turned the game on early in the 1st
quarter. We had a 3rd and 1 in our own territory. We ran a completely unimaginative, completely predictable, slow developing run up the middle for no gain. I turned the game off. It was just one play, but I figured there was a good chance it was a bit of a preview. Based on the final score it looks like I was correct. Maybe I've been watching Hokie football for too long (40+ years).

Between the announcers and
the Tomahawk Chop, the only way I can watch this game is with the mute on.

That sucked, but I think Vanderbilt
has a difference maker at QB and is better than people have been thinking, and that we were flat and can play a lot better. I'm not ready to give up on VT football having a good year.

"While it is a member" may be interpreted to refer to the time
period they agreed to (be in the ACC) in the contract - IMHO.

Not a big FSU fan,
mostly because of the @%#$ tomahawk chop, but, I don't particularly want to see the reputation of their football program go into the dumpster. In spite of the fact that a lot of people seem to think the lawsuits are the beginning of the end of the ACC, and that FSU will land on their feet in another conference, I think FSU may have made a mistake that will hurt their program for a long time. I read the complaints filed by FSU and by the ACC. The FSU complaint doesn't make them sound like someone you would want in your athletic conference -- it sounds more like a school that overestimates their own value and went whining to the court when things didn't go their way.
If FSU loses in court, which seems likely to me after reading both complaints, and they lose to Georgia on the field, they're going to look like a whiney, sore loser, who tried to take it out on their own conference. Not good for them, wherever they wind up.
FYI, I'm not a big ACC fan either, initially had a lot of sympathy for FSU, and don't discount the possibility that the ACC may be on its last legs.

Not an FSU fan, but I'd like to see
them hammer Georgia (I know, not likely), and either TX or Bama win the playoff, so that the "official" national champ is a one loss team, while FSU has pretty clearly had the best year.

I've been watching Hokie football since the 1970s. Not sure I've seen many
games with offensive play calling that mixed things up as well as we did tonight. We put an aggressive defense on their heels with some "gadget" plays and long balls -- but still had a strong running game that seemed to be a lot more than the same 3 or 4 running plays over and over, and wasn't dependent on the "slow developing run up the middle".

My perspective is a little different than a lot of
folks on this board. I grew up out west and have always thought the ACC was a bit too elitist and stodgy. I'm not sure about the logistics, but for me bringing Cal, Stanford and SMU into the conference is a welcome breath of fresh air.

I had a system for grading the offense and
defense during those years. For example, if the D turned the ball over inside the other team's 20 and the O scored a touchdown, the O would get a +4 and the D a +3. Vice-versa if our O turned the ball over inside our 20: -4 for the O and -3 for the D. Etc.
The offense usually came out with a negative score, the D with a positive.

I understand he's a great guy, and I wish him the best, even though
I actually wanted to jump the rail and kick him in the butt a few times when he was OC at Tech.

I think a lot of folks wanted to fire Beamer about that time. Pretty sure
it took the AD standing up to a strong fire Beamer sentiment to keep Beamer at VT.

I get it, but I think coaching has a lot to do with
physicality, smarts and discipline, and I'll take a team with lesser talent but a better game plan more often than not.

All kinds of misdirection running plays, quick hitters, stretch
plays (Denver won a Super Bowl with a small O line using the stretch), quick pitches, screens, draws, quick passes (we used to call them look-ins), and many variations on all of these.

With respect to the run game I feel like I'm seeing the same thing
I've seen for much of the last 30 years - an O line that does not have the horses to push a good defense off the line in the power running game and a coaching staff that is absolutely addicted to the power running game, and specifically slow developing runs up the middle, in spite of that. You could fill an entire playbook with plays designed to deal with that situation, but for some reason I've never understood we can't seem to find that playbook.

Sounds like a lot of comments from mediocre football coaches who
think results are completely dependent or recruiting rankings.
