VT Bars in DC for VMI Game

Hi All. Any recommendations on good VT bars in DC proper for the VMI game? I will be in DC over Labor Day week. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for stopping by! My Dad did his undergrad at Minnesota

And was a professor at VT. Both my parents are from the Twin Cities before moving to Blacksburg to raise a family. Love the Gophers, great school and great folks! Sad that my old man isn’t still with us to see this game, he would have loved it!

Serious question. Why is it not happening?

Sure it might be a while but why wouldn’t the schools push the governing board on this? This is a business. Why would universities not want to treat it like any other business?

This correct. But the schools should be pushing back on this.

I see no reasons that these deals shouldn’t have formal contracts with incentives and disincentives based on performance. And there should be repercussions for sitting a bowl game out. Seems to me that some want all the benefits without the accountability that comes with any job.

CU fans and alums I know are starting to tire of him

The salesman nonsense stuff is wearing thin. I think if he doesn’t get to 6 wins Boulder will really start to tire of his nonsense.

It is interesting, Louisville, Colorado is pronounced "Lewisville"

When I moved here almost 20 years ago I kept pronouncing Louisville, CO like Louisville Kentucky and people looked at my very funny.

Yep the religion on the sleeve is tiresome

Really wish Dabo didn't feel the need to do that. ** Edited by LittletonColoradoHokie at 10/29/2023, 8:57:10 PM

Not saying this is wrong but doesn’t Sands realize that football is key

To allowing the success of all of the other sports? This post sounds via UVA like in concentrating on other sports success. But hard to sustain that long term without football success.

I suspect you are right about this. And it will be fun to watch

I can’t wait for the national conferences to find out they are in a crappy situation with the insane travel they have to now pay for. All of this madness is based on the assumption of continued revenue growth which o don’t think is correct. These conferences and university administrators will have dug their own grave…gonna be fun to watch.

Bingo. My Dad was a professor at VT and he always talked the baseball team

And how much they were out of class. And that was in the Big East days. Imagine being a baseball player for Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Washington, USC, UCLA. Is really is shameful what these university administrators have done by going down this road.

Yep I am right there with you.

Won’t be watching CFB anymore. If the Hokies turn the corner and get back to being competitive I might watch some VT games but not nearly at the level I was at 15 years ago. The only way this crap stops is for folks to turn off the TV. Which I am skeptical will happen with the P2. We are headed for English Premier League type of system. Very sad.

Thanks. The absurdity of this

Imagine being a baseball player, swimmer, etc at Cal/Stanford.

Are Cal, Stanford and SMU Members for All Sports?

I had seen some talk of them just joining for football and basketball. But I see no mention in the ACC announcement that the membership is not all sports.

I get Stanford and Cal, I don't get SMU

If you are SMU why be willing to accept a reduced or no share payout for a long period of time to go a conference that there is a good chance won't exist in 10 years? I get Stanford and Cal as they are on an island right now with Pac-4 but I don't get the thinking with SMU. ** Edited by LittletonColoradoHokie at 8/31/2023, 1:56:51 PM

Same here. This was the last straw for me

Sure some it is because VT hasn’t been relevant for a decade but what has happened over the last two years culminating in yesterday…I’m done. No respect or care for transitional rivalries or student athletes.

Remains to be seen at CU on NIL

Rumor (and it is just rumor) that CU donors are rolling in. I have my doubts given the priorities of the alumni base…ie they aren’t SEC…but we will see. Gonna be fun to watch.

This. Folks seem to hold him to a different standard

I’ll admit I was not sold on him when he started at J State. But from what I have read he had run a disciplined program there. The dude is a master salesman…doesn’t mean he can’t run a program that is on the up and up.

Coach Prime Already Has a 5 Star Recruit Per Denver Post

I think he is going to clean up on the recruiting trail. Will be interesting to see how he is able to coach at the P5 level.

Yep. And Eddie just got canned

So not sure what is going to happen to the little McCaffrey. He is not a standout player and has had some issues…threw a clipboard a heckling fan this fall.

The Lilly white liberals there drive me nuts also but Boulder is nice

More outdoor recreation opportunities than one could ever take full advantage of. Weather in my opinion is also very nice. And the crime like I said above they have a problem with homelessness and the problems that brings. But that doesn’t mean it is a crime ridden city. Your chances of being a victim of violent crime in Boulder are very low when compared to other US cities of similar size.

Yep. Boulder is not a very diverse town.

I was surprised that he took the job because of that. The challenges of recruiting minority players to Boulder I would think be very similar to recruiting them to Blacksburg.

No more McCaffreys left

Youngest one is at Northern Colorado….transferred from Michigan

Boulder definitely has a problem with homeless much like Denver

and other major cities but violent crime in Boulder is still exceedingly rare. Murder rate in Boulder is about 1 per year (outside of the mass shooting that happened at the King Soopers in the Spring of 2021). Theft and petty crime is up in Boulder mainly in my opinion due to the homeless population being up...but violent crime is very rare there. Probably one of the nicest places to live in entire country.

LOL. It is amazing to me that CU still can't field a baseball team

When they got into the Pac12 it was widely reported that the conference really wanted them to field a baseball team. Lots of people I know from other Pac schools here are annoyed that they have still not managed to field a baseball team some 10+ years after joining.

I believe it is going to help CU recruiting immensely

For years all of the local talent in Denver at Valor, Cherry Creek, etc has for the most part been lost to out of state power programs. I think/hope he will be able to reverse that. Most people here however strongly believe that he will use CU as a stepping stone and be gone in a few years if he is successful. And folks are ok with that as the program has been in the dumps for about 15 year. Marrying into a Buff family and being a Hokie it has been a rough time as of late!

Does Someone Know the Details around the bus aspect of this situation?

I have seen several posts on the Sabre referring to the trauma to those that presumably witnessed this on the bus. But I haven't seen any media accounts speaking to that aspect.

Not sure what the answer is

Marrying into a University of Colorado family I have watched that program devolve into what it is now. Fan apathy, top in state recruits go elsewhere, etc. We are as bad as them and like them teams can stay in the cellar for long long periods of time. CU has had one respectable year that I can recall in the last 15 when they won the pac-12 south. Not sure what the answer is but really worried we are in for something similar.

100 percent correct. No Rules no Regs for NIL got us here

It not surprising that we are at this point. We basically have no salary cap and no rules for free agency and we wonder why we are here. And now that we are here I believe there is no going back. Why would Ohio State, Bama, Texas, etc ever agree to rules?

Not sure I agree with that

For Tech and UVa to get in they have to increase the overall $$ per conference member. On the TSL podcast I think they said the estimated payout per team was going to be 80 to 100 million every year. So Tech would have to bring the value of the TV up by that amount to just keep the payout the same. Not sure I see how VT or UVa does that.

Yep. I think the latest move of USC/UCLA to the B10 was my last straw

I thought that the so called alliance last summer had about a 20% chance of upholding stability. Clearly that is not the case and we have started down the road to a semi-pro league of which I don't really like VT's chances to remain relevant. Even if we eventually get into the SEC/B10 I doubt I will follow. Sad.
