For sure, however

If State beats UNC tonight they will jump back into the quad 1 range

As of right now

NC State, and at Cal are both quad 2 games, then Georgia Tech quad 4. Then yes the rest are quad 1

I laid each game beginning after the Duke game

Of what I think we needed to do to make the NCAA tournament. This is how it looks updated. VT WBB Net as of 2/1 :42 Must Wins Q4 and Q3 -Presbyterian✅ -ETSU✅ -FSU✅ -Radford✅ -BC✅ -SMU✅ -Wake✅ -Pitt✅ -Georgia Tech Need to Win Q2: 3-4/5 -Miami❌ -Clemson✅ -Virginia at home✅ -at Cal -NC State Need to try and win 1-2 Q1: -Louisville❌ -At Notre Dame -At Stanford -at Virginia -at Syracuse✅ -UNC

Time will tell obviously

But I think we got the best out of those three. Sears, Kitchen, Dunbar ** Edited by JerryLopez5 at 2/1/2026, 9:30:29 PM

UVA thoughts BIG WIN!!

Was in the Cassel today for the first time since the Duke game. I thought the fan atmosphere and student support was unbelievable!!! Big win for the Hokies! Had 4 in double figures with Suffren (12), Baker (11), Nelson (15), Wenzel (23). Lost the rebounding battle 41-40 but won the turnover battle 8-13. I thought this was one of Nelson’s best games all year as she scored the ball effectively and efficiently and also played outstanding defense. Wenzel also had a big time game attacking from the beginning hitting timely shots and attacking and getting to the free throw line the whole game. I thought the Hokies played exceptional defense containing Johnson as well. Holding a player of her caliber to 17 points is definitely a win. Big one Thursday at Notre Dame then hopefully the Cassel is absolutely ROCKING for NC State at home next Sunday. GO HOKIES!!

Wouldn’t say convincing

Just an ugly win. An off shooting night and ended up winning by 17. Think it shows how bad Pitt is more than anything. But a win is a win so no complaints

Still won

And got high quality looks, and didn’t hit them. That’s part of the game, this was our worst shooting performance (according to team fg%) as a team since the Duke game

Pitt Thoughts

Always better to get an ugly win than lose a game where you looked really good, and that was an ugly win. Just an off shooting night for the Hokies as they shot 19% from three and 36% from the field. They got good looks shots just weren’t falling tonight. Hokies still won the rebounding battle and the turnover battle. Had three players in double figures with Wenzel (17), Baker (13), and Freelon had a double double with (10p and 11 rebounds). However now the schedule gets real, as the next 6 games are Quad 1 or Quad 2 beginning with a HUGE game against UVA at home Sunday. GO HOKIES!

Yeah I think

She’s redshirting this year no point in bringing her back now. Let her get 100% by the start of the offseason

Wake Forest thoughts

Very commanding Quad 3 win, this was a game we could absolutely not lose and it’s even better that we ended up blowing them out. Very dominant win as we won the rebounding battle 41-32 and the turnover battle 21-11. Had four players in double figures with Baker and Wenzel leading the way again with 20 and 19. Then Freelon had 11 while Wells added 12. The Hokies shot an unreal 52% from three point range, and they were able to get out in transition which is where this team is at their best. Have to beat Pitt Thursday and then after that the schedule gets real with the rest of the games being Quad 2 and Quad 1 games the rest of the season. GO HOKIES!!!

Yes I think

We need to get to 20 wins, 21 wins to be 100% safe

That is for the men

The updated women has Clemson as the first team out and the Hokies as the second team out which makes no sense

Need

Some offensive fire power or “a spark” off the bench. You also are on a four game win streak with that lineup, so I wouldn’t change anything right now

Absolutely

Could argue it was the biggest shot of the game

Wenzel and Baker

They always say big time players have to show up in big time games!!!! Wenzel and Baker tonight were a combined 15/31 from the field, 5/11 from three, and 13/15 from the free throw line. Each scored 24 points. Wenzel with the two most important assists of the game and the game clenching free throws. Baker with the big deep three and then the big bucket to give us the lead by 1 with 11 seconds. What a game. ** Edited by JerryLopez5 at 1/22/2026, 10:44:58 PM

Clemson Thoughts, HUGE GRITTY WIN

First off, what a college basketball game and come back from the Hokies tonight!!! CARLEIGH WENZEL and CARYS BAKER were sensational tonight as they combined for 48 points. Very fitting too that they both made HUGE plays down the stretch. Game winning assists and points. And shoutout Samyha Suffren for the big three she knocked down in the corner! I thought the game really changed when Clemsons big girl fouled out, and when we started doubling #32 and ramping up the pressure on her. Then we also went to a very high pressure defense (which would both be a coaching defensive adjustment :) The Hokies also ended up winning the rebounding battle and the turnover battle. It takes a lot of discipline, heart, and grit to come from behind like that in such a huge game. Winning plays by everyone involved in the 4Q. This is the type of win that could flip our luck on selection Sunday. Need to take care of Wake Sunday. But what an intense entertaining game tonight. GO HOKIES!!! ** Edited by JerryLopez5 at 1/22/2026, 8:33:47 PM

VT WBB Remaining games ranked by importance, according to ChatGPT:)

1. Virginia (HOME) Most important game left. Winnable Q2/Q1-border win. Losing at home to UVA forces VT to steal multiple Q1 wins later. 2. Clemson (HOME) Must-bank Q2 résumé win. A loss here shrinks the margin for error to almost zero. 3. Wake Forest (AWAY) Bad-loss prevention. Losing this hurts more than losing any Q1 game. 4. Pittsburgh (HOME) NET ~250. A loss is catastrophic and almost unrecoverable. 5. Georgia Tech (HOME) Borderline Q3/Q4. Looks harmless but would crater NET and résumé. 6. @ Notre Dame Cleanest “lock-the-bid” chance. Road Q1 win basically ends bubble talk. 7. NC State (HOME) High-value Q1/Q2 swing game. Win removes First Four anxiety. 8. @ Virginia Late-season road résumé boost. Loss is survivable only if UVA (H) is handled. 9. UNC (HOME) Big Q1 opportunity but not required if VT already has 2 Q1 wins. 10. @ Stanford Bonus Q1. Helps seeding more than selection. 11. @ Cal Q2 safety-net game. Becomes critical if Clemson or UVA (H) is missed. 12. ACC Tournament Opening Game Only critical if résumé is thin. Matters more for optics unless it’s Q1/Q2. For anyone that was curious!!!

Need to beat clemson

For the sole purpose being a Q2 win, we currently only have one. Currently on our schedule we have 3 Q2 games left and are currently 1-3 in them. We need to win 4-5 Q2 games total and that would really help our resume

I know

It’s probably not allowed and definitely frowned upon. But I really hope CMD brings up our game attendance a lot to recruits/transfers. I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere we are 4th in the ACC in average attendance. I don’t care how much someone is getting paid, surly it still matters to some of these kids that playing in front of a crowd is a big deal.

Clemson game importance!!!!

According to today’s ESPN bracketology the Tigers are one of the last four teams in and the Hokies are one of the first four out (behind BYU and Miami). So the game Thursday is absolutely huge for so many reasons!!! First, CMD and Poppie at Clemson are both in there second season at there schools, so always wanna beat the in conference coaches that were hired the same year. Second, the Hokies desperately need a Q2 win as they have none so far (Syracuse was Q1) as the second half of our schedule is mostly Q1 games playing the upper tier of the ACC Finally, as stated above with us being so close in the bubble with Clemson a big win Thursday would go a LONG way to helping us be on the right side of the bubble come March. GO HOKIES!!

She’s out for the year

Still in a boot, hopefully gets out of the boot soon! Usually after players get out of the boot they will be back to normal basketball activities within a month or so ** Edited by JerryLopez5 at 1/16/2026, 3:48:16 PM

Most underrated

Player on the team Id say. Definitely one of the MVPs of the ACC games

I would assume so

In the most recent Instagram post it showed her shooting at shoot around

MUST WIN CANNOT LOSE

Game tonight!!! SMU is 7-10 and ranked 154th in the net. This is below teams like UNC Charlotte, East Carolina, and Appalachian State. This would be the type of game with a loss that would keep us out of the tournament. GO HOKIES!!!

MUST WIN SUNDAY

Boston College is the worst team in the conference, with no conference wins, and raked 248 in the net. Meaning this is a Q4 game which means we absolutely cannot lose this game tomorrow. GO HOKIES!

Wow!!!

ACC is crazy this year Clemson at home should be a good and very important game

Syracuse Thoughts

First off, WHAT A WIN!!! As of right now this is a Quad 1 win the Hokies first of the year!!!! Just a heck of a response by Duffy and the team after a very bad performance Sunday. Like I have been harping on all year this team really thrives when they get out in transition and they did tonight. They were also very good defensively. To win games like this, you usually need to have 3-4 players in double figures. Tonight Virginia Tech had 5 with Baker, Freelon, Nelson, Wenzel, and Suffren. This was the best the Hokies have played all year as they shot an absurd 67% from three, 45% from the field, and 81% from the free throw line. Was good to finally see what this team is capable of when they are playing at their best for a full game. Need to get through the rest of January undefeated as it is definitely our lighter portion of the ACC schedule competition wise. Then get ready to fight for a tournament bid in February GO HOKIES!!!!!

We did go for

Mid major posts but they went to NC State and Michigan. We really wanted the girl from bucknell who is killing it at Michigan this year. In terms of roster build up in regards to shooting, I don’t think Duffy counted on her best freshman guard recruit to be out for the year. And didn’t Swanson lead the Big 10 conference in 3 point percentage freshman year???? So I’m sure the coaches at least thought she would have an impact…. ** Edited by JerryLopez5 at 1/6/2026, 10:30:26 PM

This is true

But stats are still stats Kenny his third year was 22-10, 6-10 in the ACC with another trip to the WNIT He did not make the tournament until his 4th season

Brooks first and second season stats

First season: 20-14, 4-12 in the ACC Second Season: 23-14, 6-10 in the ACC 43-28 overall record Duffy first season: 19-13, 9-9 in the ACC ** Edited by JerryLopez5 at 1/6/2026, 7:46:07 PM

Duffy should

Ask for more money at the end of this year

Yes they will win

6 conference games!!! Louisville is a really good team. The loss that hurts the most is Miami. Still can’t believe we blew an 18 point second half lead. That’s what’s unacceptable. Today was just an awful day to play our worst game of the year… on national tv. But some of the bottom feeders of the ACC are really bad

Wish it would’ve been closer

But this is the same Louisville team that lost to SC by 2. I thought the fact that they were only favored by 17 against us was crazy. We can and need to beat Syracuse tho

Turning this off

Maybe we will hit a three by the end of the game

0/10 from three

In the first half, 34% from the field. Ouch

Spot on with the confidence piece

When Miami cut it to 10, you could see the team get tight like the game was already slipping away. From a personnel standpoint, this team is just too easy to guard. There’s no true shot-creator and no one you can go to when you absolutely need a bucket. I think Wenzel would be the closest that we have to that, who played very well yesterday. Just wish we could’ve held on to the lead :/

Wouldn’t say her competition was

Questionable, she played the top level of competition in NC HS. Also, she was the best player on her curry AAU team. I’m not saying she will be amazing immediately, but the competition she played was definitely elite ** Edited by JerryLopez5 at 1/2/2026, 3:23:46 PM

Yep

Spot on! Nobody that demands the bal or wants the bal in high pressure situations ** Edited by JerryLopez5 at 1/2/2026, 10:22:07 AM

Yes we needed to attack her

But Miami made it very hard to do that going to the zone. It’s very difficult to attack a particular player when that team is in a 1-3-1 zone

I think it’s more important

For players to have “killer instincts” the game got tight and we folded. We looked scared, Duffy called two timeouts after Miami runs to try and stop the momentum and calm everyone down, but it didn’t work. Don’t get me wrong like I have said blowing a 18 point second half league is never acceptable at any level. But it’s not all on the coach, the players have to make plays.

Duke is a Q1 loss

That loss won’t hurt us at all, Duke top 4 in the ACC
