my attitude is all I can control
I had a really bad night in my first dealings with the tumor on my heart 6 years ago and yelled at my son... I'll never let myself lash out at my family like that again.

Round 2 - the ugly word metastasized
There's no sugar coating it and really no getting around it, my oncologist believes the tumor I had on my heart has spread to my lungs. The SEF (Sclerosing Epithelioid Fibrosarcoma) was removed 6 years ago and I did two months of proton radiation treatments at Mass General. They told me then that SEF has a high recurrence at the same location, but it seems mine got in the blood stream and is going after the lungs (also a high occurrence with SEF). I don't have any pain or severe symptoms and there is still a good bit of unknown. The two nodules are in the lower right lung and are close enough they could cut them both out with a "wedge" surgery. They've been steadily growing at about 20% every 3 months for the last couple years but are still pretty small (largest is 6MM). They're too small to do a biopsy yet, so the plan is to re-scan in early Sept and eval then, but the oncologist (who I like a lot) is pretty sure of what we're dealing with and it's a matter of deciding between lung surgery and radiation.
I'm still pretty beat up from cancer round 1, but I'm also still standing and count my blessings every single day. Heck, the oncologist is pretty straight with me and told me 2 years ago he's surprised I'm still here... so my attitude is simple: I'm staying here! For the most part I'm just cruising along and do my best not to dwell on it much, but there are moments it bugs me and I do my best to deal with those times head on and then get back to work. The one that flashes the most is the last lesson we parents get to teach our kids is how to let us go. I'm not ready to teach that lesson anytime soon and I firmly believe it will be many years down the road as a grandfather that I do get to teach it.
Anyway, I still convinced I'll be ok and this is just another in my list of medical challenges. My biggest concerns are for my wife and kids and how much they have to carry me. So, I'll take all the prayers I can get for them.
Three things I tell myself every day:
- "If you're going through hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill
- I believe in the best path and I will fight for it
- I have cancer, cancer does not have me

How can the committee say they βlook at the overall body of workβ
I get itβs RPI / how can we make the most $EC teams host and Iβll freely admit the $EC can play some softball, but wouldnβt it be nice to see them have to play north of Athens once in a while.

Get angry ladiesβ¦
Winning record against one host - UGA (#10)
Split with Duke (#12) but run ruled them and shut them out the last two games
Took another host FSU (#9) to a one run game
Better overall record than half the hosting teams

win 3 this week = likely host?
Just win!
3 wins keeps us home --> win 3 more and your in the supers --> win 2 there and it's off to Ok City
I think these ladies are very capable of winning 8 games in the next 3 weeks!
LET'S GO!!!

didn't make it loud / clear the 3-2 pitch was a called strike
Catch threw down to 3rd to celebrate the K while the runner ran to first... just a bit unclear as he didn't bark it out loud or motion the strike out

you're touching on something I bought up a week or so ago...
Plenty of pitchers give up HRs... part of life in the circle. But all 5 of these are by Mazz when she seemed to be having control struggles early and missed over the middle of the plate against a big hitter after giving up a couple walks / hits early. Even though we all ADORE her and love see her out there; however, it behooves Pete to get a little introspective here and analyze the pattern / what's going on. A number of announcers have commented that Mazz seems to be at her best when she takes a little of the velocity off and is pinpointing a little better. She's only given up 11 HRs on the season, but those 5 seem more critical; the question is was she doing somethign different or impacted in the situation by something Pete can minimize.
Freddie Prince Jr with his brother in Summer Catch "what's my game... hit your spots don't try to throw fastballs by everyone who steps in the box... I want to be intimidating... wouldn't you rather be rich?"

Fri vs Sun
Forgive me if previous discussed or if I'm just off base (by no means am I an expert), but in a tough series, do we hit better on Sunday or does Mazz pitch more relaxed on Sundays? The three Friday night losses (Duke, Clemson, UVA - all 1 run) in the last few weeks all have a common theme: 1) we did not come out with hot bats 2) a couple hits / walks were taken advantage of by a HR early to put us in the hole by 3 or 4 runs. In all 3 cases, Mazz seemed to settle the rest of the game, so I'm not trying to read anything into her ability at all or even preparation... she's fantastic! She's given up some hits / walks on Sundays and pitched out of it where she's given up the dinger on three Fridays.
It's not like anyone is lighting up the score board against any of the VT pitchers, of our 6 losses, we're giving up an average of 5 runs and scoring 3.5.
I tend to lean more that it was just an off day at the plate for VT and / or couldn't string together enough hits early, but it struck me that Mazz seems to smile more pitching on Sundays or it maybe be she smiles more pitching with a lead.
Just curious if anyone else is seeing the same or if I'm reading it oddly.
