Posting History (208)

Damn. Chris Johnson, CJ2K, diagnosed with ALS. I remember him scoring the

first TD in the '07 opener for ECU on that emotional day. Diagnosed at 39 and less than a year later he can't speak without a computer. ALS is freakin' brutal. Wish him and his family the best dealing with that.

Surprising to me. Andraya and Chiney are (IMO) pretty good on GameDay,

especially when Elle Duncan has been host. The prep/communication last night did seem "off."

Career ~.550 winning percentage, but some of you think he's John Wooden.

I want to see him do well, but he didn't even come close to dominating the mid-major conference he was in his whole career - and that was pre-NIL.

Strange to me how so many are assuming we'd have great success in the NIT.

We could, but it's far from a guarantee. This team has had some great moments, but has also had some dreadful ones. Is two extra home games against weak teams really that much more beneficial than even one extra game in the "real" tournament against another bubble team? I don't think that's worth the trade-off of being in one of the tournaments that nobody cares about.

Since you mentioned expectations, it's not realistic to assume a deep WNIT

run. This team has done some great things and is ahead of schedule, but they haven't dispatched weaker competition with "ease." I'm not sure why everyone seems to think we'd just storm through the WNIT field.

I disagree. Many coaches are risk-takers, particularly those with ambition.

It's a high risk, but high potential reward, situation. I'm not suggesting we'd attract the same candidates as Texas if they had an opening, but there are undoubtedly a bunch of up-and-coming candidates who would take a shot at making a name for themselves by cleaning up the mess. We all need to get (more) used to the idea that VT won't be a "destination" job for many coaches anymore.

He does have as much high-level head coaching experience as Pry had

when he got the job. Sure, Pry had a bunch of experience as an assistant, but as we've seen (not just at VT) that doesn't always translate. The head job is very different these days.

Not as many in #, but 1998 was more frustrating to me. UVA/Temple were

Games we had won, and of course the β€˜Cuse miracle. I know plenty of teams can have their coulda shoulda wouldas, but that could have been an undefeated season.

In what world is MY a β€œprogram builder?” Head coach at exactly one place

Prior to VT, where he had been an assistant for a long time. Also had a .550ish win percentage in that mid-major gig. He has a defined track record of mediocrity, with occasional bursts of pretty good. Some of you seem to think he’s a hall of famer, which is comical.

That’s not remotely true. SC fans thinks they should win the conference.

Ask Holtz/Spurrier. If they had gone 5-7 again this year, he would have been in serious trouble.

Without better resources, have to go with the high-risk, high-reward hires

Who won't stick around. I have zero doubt we could hire relative up-and-comer type coaches who aren't necessarily getting first looks from the real top programs, but would gladly try to make a splash at an ACC school. Of course, once they do, they'll take a B10/SEC job, but maybe that's the path to success.

Things may get negative around here, but they won't where it matters, which

is in that locker room. This team has (by all accounts) solid leadership, which will carry them through the tough nights.

lol, you sure do love negativity. Indiana will be fine - far better than VT

most likely. Their recruiting is already vastly improved and they've got support and B10 money.

That's been true for a decade+ at this point. Lots of teams in the

not-terrible-but-not-very-good bucket. It would be seen as parity if the top 1/3rd had been consistently better.

The only thing that REALLY ticks me off…is that we don’t play FSU this year

Man they are absolute garbage and it would have been nice to pick up a rare W over them.
