Sometimes you have to be able to manage a superstar’s ego
Young is used to recruiting Wofford type talent that has no nba aspirations. Gotta manage egos. Rice has us in the tournament if he’s on this roster.

this staff’s inability to keep talented roster pieces is a problem IMO
Buchanan is averaging a stat line this season that maybe 10 other players can claim in all of college basketball, level of competition be damned. Instead we got Mekhi Long giving us absolutely nothing. Instead of MJ Collins giving us literally zero points today, we could have Alleyne or Rice giving us something. I get it, the staff and Mike Young are never at fault for anything that goes wrong though it’s always the players fault

Duke is beatable. It’s hard to win on the road. Get it done.
This is our season on the line Monday night because we def ain’t winning @ UNC IMO. Win against Duke and we ride that momentum to a tournament birth. Lose and I think NIT is all but a guarantee barring winning out/winning the conference tournament. Was super skeptical but this squad has got it going finally and think winning 7 or 8 of the final 11 games isn’t out of the question, but most of those W’s won’t move the needle like Duke will. BEAT DUKE!

We were up 22 and they got it to 7.
Being outscored by Ga Tech by 15 points at any point in time except for against walkons is kinda concerning

Kidd is averaging 8 points per game over his last 5 ACC games. He scored 2
points against UVA in the loss. He’s not that good

That’s the only model available now in this era.
Every player is a free agent after every season. You’re not gonna get 3+ high school recruits playing together for 3+ years at the same college ever again.

He’s not gonna get minutes over Kidd and Kidd isn’t even that good…
This staff needs to be in win-now mode. That’s the way college sports works. You go all-in each season to put out the best you can and live with the results. No more recruiting players and developing them for 3 and 4 years and out-systeming squads.

You can transfer twice now without sitting out a year
So Camden graduating is irrelevant. Him and Wessler taking up a roster spot in a year when Mike Young’s seat will be ultra hot is not a smart move. Those two along with two true freshmen who probably won’t contribute either is 4 roster spots not contributing to winning in a year where winning is of the utmost importance for the head ball coach to keep his job.

Roster situation for next season
Pedulla - retain
Nickel - retain
Kidd- retain
Cattoor/Long/Beran graduate + rice left
Camden- ask to move on
Wessler- ask to move on
Collins- wouldn’t miss him much but wouldn’t mind if he accepted a bench role
Rechsteiner/Young give one more year to see if they make a nice jump in development I guess
Poteat no idea what his eligibility situation is but wouldn’t mind him playing his current role.
Gonna need to land 4 or 5 portal players that can contribute right away assuming the two incoming freshmen won’t be providing any meaningful minutes.

I’m seeing teams have 250K NIL per roster spot
Teams like Georgetown and Rutgers.
Is Tech coming anywhere close to that number? If not, it’s honestly hard to expect much improvement through the portal/recruting going forward. Got lucky with some former Wofford guys but the game has changed and don’t think we got the ammo to compete in hoops. This roster needs a total overhaul outside of like 4 or 5 guys to get back to ncaa tournament relevance.

This team will be lucky to make the NIT at this point.
There are no gimmes on the schedule. We more often than not lose the 50/50 games. Maybe 6 more wins at best is my guess

Beran and Kidd on the court at the same time looks awkward. Will Rechsteiner be patient if he sits behind Pedulla for two straight seasons? Lots for Mike Young to figure out. Looking like we will need at least a 12-8 conference record to make the tournament assuming we lose a few more non-con games. Gonna be a long season if we can’t win these one possession games because that’s what we are gonna find ourselves in more often than not. Humongous missed opportunity tonight. No other way to put it.

Pedulla wasn’t all that great either. Agree to disagree.
Mutts turnovers were a problem. I don’t think that can be argued or spun in a positive manner.

Im just saying, you obviously aren’t upgrading over Pedulla/Rice/Cattoor
And probably Long… center is a question mark still.
I’m not saying don’t go after good players, but I just think expecting a “starter” level player to come here to willingly accept a bench role most likely is a long shot, not just for us, but for most teams.

Don’t really have starter minutes to offer as the roster currently sits IMO
so expecting a splash portal addition with only one scholly left is foolish at best. If we can get a 6/7/8/9th man that has actual experience playing in the big leagues I’ll take it no matter what his stats were at his previous stop.

Huge. We are better able to withstand losing Basile IMO
no Cattoor meant likely Collins starting? (Obviously the portal would’ve been an option as well)
Hope Collins becomes a rock solid 6th man for us.
Pedulla/Rice/Cattoor should be potent. Can we land a versatile 3/4 like the Rev wants? I sure hope so. Hopefully no more portal entry surprises coming our way and MY can start building for the upcoming season. LETS GO!

These will be the results.
The way Mike Young likes to build is through 3 and 4 year players in his system and you just aren’t going to get much of that in this era. Can he adapt and build veteran squads predominantly through the portal? Seems like his only hope going forward. Can’t waste roster spots on redshirts and true freshmen that need 2+ years to be ready for meaningful action, IMHO.
