Posting History (185)

It's absolutely a serious comment. I used to love football...

But now I can just see all the untold evils it occasionally unleashes decades later. It's simply not worth it for a game. I'm glad you can see the positives in what you're doing and I surely hope that you do find positive impacts in the lives of those kids, but I couldn't morally do it myself.

I'll say the same thing I said on the wrestling board...

Can I vote to eliminate football? It's embarrassing that my school, with all the available knowledge, chooses to continue to be a CTE factory.

Felt like the right call to me.

She moved in front of the plate as she was moving to catch the ball and didn't block the plate until she was catching/holding the ball. I think the umps ultimately got it right.

I think people were saying that Georgia was missing some of their top arms

If you're ranking the teams as a whole, you should take that into account, so it's not entirely unreasonable to imagine the games might've been very different if all the players were available and rank accordingly.

Oh, absolutely. It's a fantastic start minus the obvious control issues

And I don't think anyone needs to tell the team that if they don't clean those up, they're going to bite them in the future.

Here's a link to the full game video

There's also a nice documentary on Youtube titled "HokieVision Presents - Miracle on Dirt"

Because you love the school?

I wish more people would choose their school based on the school and academics and not on the sports. I doubt it's happening here, but it would be more for the "right" reasons.

Your point seems to be that everyone who doesn't get a college degree

ends up in a soup line. Why not build people up rather than attacking them? If you want to comment on his football abilities, that seems relevant to this forum, good or bad. If you're going to opine on whether or not he'll be successful in life after school, maybe keep that to yourself?

We have the second worst loss in the top 15 of KPI...

The only one worse is Duke's loss at Pittsburgh. Let's make sure not to match that.

I'm not particularly interested in paying for admission

Just so the mediocre football program gets more money to help spread CTE to the next generation. Would much rather contribute to something like this.

Got this...

Blackwell diving catch Rose and threw it to Castine Chatfield triple play

There's really no way of knowing. We got the win...

...so in some ways, it all "worked out." Maybe Lemley goes in and gets 3 outs right away. Maybe the same hitters that Kleiman gave up singles/walks to, Lemley gives up home runs. We'll just never know.

I am watching the broadcast. The broadcast is not the wrestling board

Also, the President of the United States is the leader for all of us. They often show up at big events and they represent the country. It transcends politics

Feels like a very artificial "accomplishment" to me

They're hyping it but the other 4-time champs didn't have the opportunity for five. Feels like they don't have anything actually worth hyping so they went with the "record" that was literally only achievable due to a fluke outside the wrestler's control.

Technically she entered with runners on 1st and 2nd

And they advanced on her first pitch. Was likely a passed ball, though, so not her fault.

Coming into today, Kleiman's ERA has been vastly better than Lemley's...

Lemley certainly has higher highs, but she's also had lower lows. Kleiman has been far more consistent and also done a far better job keeping the ball in the park.

They didn't seem to care at all about the game...

Would be nice if VT could find some announcers who respected the players enough to talk about the game rather than their snacks.

I'll start by saying I also think it was a ball, but your image misleads...

First off, the camera is not looking directly down the line from pitcher to plate. It's at an angle. Second, as you admitted, the ball was sweeping left to right. The ump doesn't call the pitch based on where it lands in the catcher's glove (as you seem to imply). He calls the pitch based on where it crosses the plate. It's impossible to know exactly where it's crossing the plate, but here's my best estimate. Again, remember that the camera angle is a bit off. I'd say it's a ball, but I feel like it's in the river. It's not a full plate-length off as your lines suggest.

Sometimes good pitchers have bad days...

I'm sure you're well aware that at this point your comment already hasn't aged well, though.

Maybe trying to help keep her confidence and pull her out of the slump

While we're still in the early season so she's back to herself before conference games start. It's a long season. You can't view every situation in a vacuum.

I'm no softball coach or expert, but...

...it did seem that Alabama figured her out by the end of the first game. First 3 innings: 6 strikeouts 4 balls in play, all hit to 3b (2 groundouts, 1 error, 1 sac bunt) Inning 4: Foul out to LF (first ball to leave the infield) Ground out to 1B Popup to SS Inning 5: Ground out to 2B Fly out to RF Double to LF (first hit, third ball out of the infield) Pop up to 2B Inning 6: Single to 1B Error by 2B Single to RF Flyout to LF Flyout to LF Inning 7: Ground out to 2B Single to LF Single to LF Fly out to LF Fly out to LF (diving catch) Summary: 6 strikeouts in the first 3 innings. 0 strikeouts in the last 4. 0 balls hit to the outfield in the first 3 innings. 10 in the last 4. Either Lemley suddenly lost her stuff after 3 innings, or they figured something out.
