Carys needs to be better at layups. Carly had that problem until this year.
Maybe a midrange, but would rather see her be more physical and/or shifty at getting off her shot.

100%. The only real concern I would have with that is that CKB was
was 100% reliant on Liz and Georgia's amazing offensive prowess . Completely unstoppable. What kept VT winning that final 4 game was the general malaise he had toward the rest of the team. Give me Coach Duffy with this year's team, plus Strack, Georgia, and Silva, that's a title contender.

It's a one game snapshot, but would be interested in taking a look at Stout
6'3" Frosh. Was a really good HS player. She only averaged 6.6ppg this year but she was terrific today against Strack and Silva. Who knows.

Agreed that Rose's ejection was on Carliegh. The shove in the back
from the BC player, Samuel, should have been an automatic ejection.
The game, as a whole, is what was expected. ACC refs are awful at physical play. Last possession, Ekh gets contact, no call. That play was called a foul the entire game. It's been that way in the ACC for several years now.

It really is. It's hard to watch and makes you cringe every time she gets
in the lane. She's still young and can improve but really needs to practice the basics of laying the ball up while guarded. And no underhand scoops.

Miles should have been T'd up several times.
You can't keep making gestures after every call.
It also comes from the coach. She looked amazed every time a foul was called.
Hidalgo should have fouled out in the 3rd quarter. Lots of hand checking. You get one check to set your D position. Next push is a foul.
Happy to see Miles go away. She's a bad example for young women.

Rose earned her 4 fouls, Carleigh too. We aren't good enough to guard
all the talent NCSU has. James is good at initiating contact and getting calls, but that's the only quibble I would have with the refs.
But, you can probably say that about every game, there's always someone who has that skill. The counter is to keep your arms up and jump vertical, which is better than letting them score AND getting a foul.

I don't know what to think about Carleigh. She's so up and down, but
consistently drives the ball into traffic, where she struggles with her handle and getting off a shot.
Not sure if she would better pulling up and shooting, or if she's trying to draw contact and fouls.
We know she can be a solid player, but like you said, there are spurts of good and bad.

Feels like she's playing well in practice against starters, and getting
the confidence boost from the results. In the early games this year, against bad competition, she played well. Tonight she played well against good competition. She has looked a little lost in some of the defensive sets on switches (not today as much, but against other teams that switch more), but that comes with time.

Why can't Ramiyah get a few minutes?
I feel like having her body up opposing bigs every once in a while, could help.
Change of pace. Rebounds.Draw some fouls.

Yep. Rose is OK on the offensive end, even though she misses more layups
than I think she should. But she struggles with length and athleticism, like Lattimore.
4 guards and Rose on her own against the opposing team bigs, is tough.
They outrebounded us by 10, and were +6 on blocked shots. Everything else pretty even.
Would have been nice to take and make more 3s. We couldn't solve the zone.
We need more length, helpful on D and O. A taller post player at the foul line would have been helpful to bust the zone.
Still like the way they competed.

Cal just isn't that good, outside of Stoko.
Johnson played terrific D on him in 1st half.
Cal also only had 2 TOs to VT's 13.
Overall, VT played solid D, which is why they won. Able to get stops and Cal couldn't.
The officials also looked clueless most of the game. They're still trying to get the clock right.

FR Fournier is ahead of FR Kitley, but she's also a different player.
I don't think Fournier will be the same player as Kitley ended up. When Kitley was on her Jr and Sr years (and she was on a lot), she was unstoppable offensively. Fournier is more complete all around, but I doubt she'll be as consistently reliable as Liz. Will also have to see how Fournier does against taller, athletic opponents.

Itâs a better fit for Pedulla. He can focus on offense and
has some really good defenders to cover up his deficiencies.
Rechsteiner is in the same boat this year. He has to guard players that he canât guard.
CMYs problem is that he needs his team to play together at a high level and with NIL, itâs going to be tough to get a full squad with the experience and knowledge to do that.

So Beard was able to help Pedulla have 2 fewer ppg, 1.4 fewer assists per
game, slightly fewer rebounds per game, and slightly higher FG%??
Wow, impressive!!!!!!
Or, maybe Pedulla showed improvement every year under CMY, and was able to parlay that into a $500k NIL deal.

Not that it would have changed the outcome, but O'Grady violated the 3
second rule about a dozen times.
There was a sequence in the 4th quarter. around the 4 minute mark...6 seconds in the paint. Crazy.

Whit got women's bball to be a big hit in BBurg, and a name ppl know across
America. Short of a national championship, we got as much as we could have hoped for in his tenure.
It will be interesting to see how UK players react to Brooks' team management.

Same here. Last year we started with Cattoor, Pedulla, Beran, Nickel, and
Kidd ( I think). None of them are back. We have one returning player, Poteat, who had meaningful minutes last year.
All I can think of is how weird it is for a fan to grasp the new roster, what it must be like for CMY. Lots and lots of unknowns.

I think Josh missed the part of the game where VT game management cost
us the game. While I think overturning the call was poor, that wasn't the sole reason we lost.

It's not clear to me that the reviewed call was correct.
The rulebook has this specific language,
The NCAA softball rule on obstruction states that a defensive player is obstructed if they:
"Block the runner from advancing or returning to a base"
"The rule change clarifies the language and removes any gray area for plays of that nature. For example, the defender could previously block the plate or base while in the act of catching the ball. Under the revised rule, the runner will be called safe if the defender blocks the plate or base before gaining possession. If the runner contacts the defensive player without making a legitimate attempt to slide, the runner will be called out."

No one is going to make an announcement saying that the VT donor base
doesn't provide enough funds to compete with the SEC, B1G, or even other ACC schools.

Nothing about making a stink would benefit the team. Coach D'Amour learned
a lot about his team this weekend and most of it was good to great. They played great offense and overall the pitching and D was solid. Take the positives, and let the negatives role off your back like water on a duck!

That website is definitely media. And yes, definitely biased.
I bet that Will, Chris, David, Andy, etc. would have mentioned those facts in their reporting of the game. Of course, no one expects that from Auburn and the SEC.

Lot of people were saying this in the regional games too! They will pull
it together. Just have to get the bats going. Then settle in and play ball like they can.

Emotions make people think and say crazy things. I'm just excited that we
have a softball team that gets people revved up, excited when they win, and disappointed when they lose. These ladies are an awesome bunch, and have shown a lot of toughness in many situations. Can't wait to see how far they can go. KY was not an easy out, and having to win 3 in a row, starting at 10PM last night....is amazing!
