Posting History (45)

Matt Campbell impressed me in that

1) he (or someone in his organization) had a great ability to judge talent. I'm not sure he ever signed a 4star player, yet he made winners out of what talent he had. 2) his ability to get a bunch of florida and texas guys to come to the corn fields of iowa (brutally cold winters) 3) he stayed at iowa state for almost ten years. Most coaches would have bolted after the first winning season.

I'm all for having the game in Charlotte

But I have never understood why it is a night game. Money usually is the driver. Since Charlotte is a day trip to the alumni of most schools, they would not sell many hotel rooms unless the game was at night.

What if....

VT had won the ODU game? Maybe Pry would have been let go later in the season, but would we have gotten Franklin?

My memories:

-One of the tennesee fans shooting the hokie bird "the bird" -A few drunk tennesee fans queuing up in the drink line and staying there the whole fourth quarter (after they stopped spelling drinks) -The Tennessee QB hitting a wide open receiver over the middle only to have him drop it. Chancellor was bearing down on him!

I wasn't too disappointed in the game

The d line played great. The receivers looked like they will be a force to be reckoned with. Marve and Bowen replacements are upgrades, but how can we get rid of skip holt?

Agree. It always bothered me that the Florida State QB was a professional

when he played us in the championship game. He was a professional in amateur sports after spending several years in minor league baseball. Now it is much worse with players hanging around for the NIL money.

I'm glad Robinson won

The OSU guy doesn't wrestle until he has to. I thought he stalled the whole match with Ventresca. Ventresca would shoot and all he would do was move to get out of the circle. He got lucky on the take down after the escape.

There is no doubt that the league protects certain teams at certain times

Back in the day, VT got their share of calls. It has gotten worse over the years as the money has increased. I'm not sure of any adjudicated sport that isn't biased.

Vandy was all on the coaches. Rutgers was more player execution.

I dont think Marve watched any game film at all on the Vandy QB. Also, if Pry knew he had two players with the same number on the field, he should have called time out. Inexcusable. Rutgers: we fumble a return, questionable late hit OB, give them a first down by jumping off sides. The one play that really sits in my brain was our 4th down play where the left tackle invites the Rutgers DE into the backfired without even a shove. For those more in the know than I, was that the left tackles responsibility or was somebody else supposed to block the DE?

I'm never watching another VT baseball game.

I turn it on and the first batter (Duke) hits a home run. The other night I turned it on and they were 5 runs up on UVA only to lose.

It's no wonder young athletes have no allegiance to schools when

the schools have no allegiance to the conferences. Lets just disregard the contract that was signed. It really means nothing.

I'm watching the big 12 championship now

I hope Stewart doesn't have to wrestle this guy from U N I (Keckesein) until the finals. Talk about energy. He never stops.

I only watch games with schools that i have some type of affiliation

So I have watched three bowl games this year and I dont plan on watching any more. I haven't been to a game since 2019. I cut my donation to the hokie club in half. I stopped my subscription to TSL. I know Im crazy, but in some small way, I think that is the only way things will get back to normal.

I went to Iowa State for grad school so I follow them

I'm amazed how Campbell continues to get players to come to the corn fields of iowa from Florida and Texas. Their freshman QB (from Florida) shows some real talent. In many ways I don't understand how VT can't recruit Florida if Iowa State can.

Anybody watching OSU Notre dame?

Wasn't the OSU receivers foot down in bounds? I really can't stand to watch football anymore without some idiotic call by the refs.

Darn, it's hard to play golf at night.

The last few weeks I have chosen to play golf instead of watching them. It takes my mind off of the massacre.

Coaching question

Granted, the team just doesn't have much talent. However, the players we do have don't seem to be emotionally into the game. I think a great deal of coaching is psychology. How do you get the best from the players you have. I think Bud Foster's best asset was his ability to know how to inspire his players. He inspired the defense which in turn gave the program an image (a hard nosed physical team). We have no image. What kind of team are we and which of our coaches can inspire the players and create an image? Marve seems to be a feisty guy. I was hoping that he could do what Foster did, but I haven't seen it yet. Has anybody heard Marve or Bowen speak? Do they have what we need at this point?

I honestly don't know why we didn't play him more last year

He didn't even have to catch the ball but he sure could have stretched the defense

Who should I give money to this year?

I usually don't think about charitable donations until December. Now it is December. I usually give $500 a year to the athletic programs scholarship fund. I don't buy tickets through the hokie club. In general, I don't agree with NIL and think it will ruin most college sports. Should I give less to the hokie club and start donating to "the hokie way"? If I did that, I feel like it would hurt some of the smaller athletic programs. How is everybody else rationalizing this mess?

I can't find a game worth watching right now.

I'm mildly interested in the wake Louisville game, but every time I turn it on Hartman drops the ball or throws a pick 6.
