Yep. He's a project but at 7'9"...
...all he really needs to do is make 3-second rounds back and forth across the back of the lane and jam it when they pass him the ball. That and rebound on both ends. If I was a coach, I'd just have him practice free throws the whole practice session.

VT hasn't been a player for that long...
It hadn't been a major university until about 1970. Previous to that it was only a small military college for almost a century. The resources and large alumni base have only existed for maybe the last 45 years. Most of those schools with nattys have been around and have been larger for far longer. Add to that the decades in conference purgatory, and it makes perfect sense.

VA's population is still growing slightly faster than the national average-
In states with B12 schools, the state of Virginia's population size is right in the middle of the pack. In states with SEC schools, Virginia is above the middle in 5th place. So, those two arguments don't support the devaluation of the state of Virginia based on population.

Team I want bounced early even more than uva...
... VCU.
Living here in the Richmond area, the further they go into the dance, the more insufferable their bandwagon fans get. đ¤Ž

The US consumer price index has gone up every month for the last 6, and...
...currently stands at 326.59, up from 322.17 in July. And to get that gas price you illustrated - you need to pay a fee to be a member to get that price. Overall gas prices in the US are at an average of $3.07, up from $3.05 in 3Q 25.

Has nothing to do with Hokie resolve, everything to do with the economy...
Prices for ~everything~ are sharply up, and wages don't match it. At some point you have to decide whether you want to pay the mortgage, doctor, and grocery bills, or do you want to contribute to a multi-million dollar entertainment business. I love VT and I was a 30-year contributor, but life crept in and I had to make a tough decision to suspend my donations, at least until things resolve a little financially.

A lot of people can't afford to go to actual games...
Spring game gives a lot of families opportunities to experience VT football without having to break the bank. It's also a less daunting experience for younger children. Keep the spring game format. I wouldn't bother to go if it was just a concert.

2009 win over Nebraska in Lane...
Amazing comeback with wild finish. Got to go down on the field with my kids after the game.

Answered my own question...
Actually ChatGPT answered it. For the 24-25 season VT women's attendance was #23 in the nation. The 25-26 numbers are still pending.

More is always better, but I'll bet...
...we're probably in the top 10% of attendance for NCAA women's basketball. Anecdotal, but it would be interesting to see someone pull the actual national attendance together.

Wonder if they are monitoring structural integrity of the flying buttreses
That's 60's era concrete and steel construction. If there's been any infiltration of water into them, there could be serious issues. Same thing with the concrete supports in Lane Stadium. I've noticed quite a bit of exposed rusting rebar from concrete spalling off. I saw some of them wrapped in black fabric to keep chunks of concrete from falling on people. Bottom line, if structural maintenance of either of those facilities has been deferred in the interests of saving money, it will have been a bad decision in the long run. Lane can probably be fixed but, at some point, Cassell is not going to be worth the money sunk into trying to put bandaids on it.

Woah! How many people will get that reference from an early '70s movie?
Oh, wait. We're mostly old farts here, so probably a good number. >8-}

I had planned on going, but forgot I'd signed up to run the Richmond 10K...
...with the family. I HATE that both those events more often than not end up on the same weekend. I suspect a lot of Richmond area Hokies fall into that same dilemma.

Exactly! I'm 70 and even I know about him...
Love his music and he's had some of the best guest appearances on SNL. Guy is funny, smart and extremely talented. You'd have to be living under a veritable rock to not know who he is.

I agree with one of the assessments below...
In the case where the NIL money offered is roughly equivalent, a player will always defer to the place that has the better facilities. Better facilities could be the tipping point for some of the best recruits in that case.
Better facilities are also a consideration for fan experience and pride, factors that can't be summarily dismissed.

20-0
After a perfect regular season, they run the table in the post season shutting out all their opponents in the playoffs to win the national championship. The world is so impressed, the team is scheduled for a series of exhibition games playing pro teams around Europe, all of which result in convincing wins for the Hokies.

Pry = 3 keystrokes, BP = 2 keystrokes
Franklin = 8 keystrokes, CJF = 3 keystrokes
What are you really saving???

Many thanks to VT women's basketball for letting me share my memories
It was a great honor to have been associated with those wonderful ladies at the time, and it was an honor to have been able to have shared some of their origin story. What a joy it has been to have seen their evolution from where they were in the early 70's to where they are now. There was a lot more that I passed along, but this was a pretty good snippet (see link.) Thanks for the memories!

A number of those kids are from Virginia...
And some of them we just missed on the first time around. I would expect the Virginia kids would have more affinity toward VT than some of the others.

Since 1879...
We've been taking their bullsh!t for almost a century and a half. By many milestones, VT has surpassed UVA academically and athletically, but the sting of their condescension remains. This is what in-state rivalries are made of. There is a mutual revulsion, and that's the way it will always be.

Meh. It was their year. Let them have it.
Every team catches lightning in a bottle once in a while. I don't think their success is sustainable, but I don't begrudge them one good year every quarter of a century. Now, if we lose to them more than once every 10 years (preferably 25!), then I'll be disgruntled. đ
