Know I’m late but I finally got to watch the late game incident from
yesterday. No problem with the VT ejections. But I definitely think one if not two UNC players should have been ejected. If we throw out a guy for celebrating a home run(due to a previous warning) then you cannot let the pitcher throw behind the next guy period. I don’t care if it’s something off speed that “slipped”. You don’t get the benefit of the doubt there. And if we’re ejecting the VT guy for chirping on the way to the dugout then you have to eject the UNC guy who took offense and started yelling and escalated things.
All that to say I don’t think the umps handled it well at all. If you are going to warn teams and then throw guys out for things that they probably wouldn’t otherwise be ejected for then you have to apply that logic to both teams. VT’s guys were held to a different level of accountability than UNC’s and that’s one of the cardinal sins of officiating.

I don't watch golf but it definitely seems warranted. Regardless I'll take
that over the random stat lines that get hyped up. Player X is the first 24 year old to score 15+ points and 8+ rebounds on a Tuesday night during a full moon when the temperature is below 45 degrees.

Possible? Sure anything's possible. Plausible? No. It's more plausible
that Drones just had surgery and that Watson is a little banged up. I'm sure Watson could have played but why risk it? It's also possible that the coaches simply didn't want to show other teams anything from Watson (either opponents or potential transfer destinations). But the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

Here's the thing... despite everything I know about Jurassic Park from the
movies to the books to the logistical issues if it ever became a real thing I would be there. I realize that I would probably die horribly but still... living dinosaurs!

I think we were supposed to have someone come out and tell us how feasible

Two very different premises though right? I enjoy Severance as it's the
kind of show I like. A weird sci-fi premise with mystery and a seemingly omnipotent corporate entity (Lumon here, the Dharma Initiative on LOST). The idea of severing is an interesting one. It somehow seems both completely improbable and perfectly plausible with regards to the real world. The execution of the concept is sometimes uneven but overall I like the show. I'd also say if you've watched the entire first season and aren't feeling it then it probably isn't for you. It doesn't really get drastically different in terms of tone or plot in season 2.

Yes some of the Australian time zones are only 30 minutes different. We
were flying a lot and so it seemed like we were always an hour or two different after every flight. But in Alice Springs it was 30 minutes which seemed really pointless.
It was also very hard to grasp that we left Fiji at 9 PM on a Thursday, flew for 10 hours, and landed in LA at noon on that same day. And they say time travel isn't possible.

If he follows the pattern from VT and Texas A&M he will build up one team
of core guys, ride them as far as they will take him, and then peace out. Will that be enough for Maryland? I guess it depends on how far that core takes them.

Yeah it definitely has a niche and fills it. It doesn't hurt that it's
great for kids both in terms of portability and game selection. Back in my day if we wanted to portability we had to make do with a Game Boy.

It pays for the portability though. While it remains to be seen how games
run on the Switch 2 ones on the Switch consistently run slower and with worse graphics than competitor consoles. And it's not just a small difference. There's no comparison between a Switch game and one on the Xbox Series X or PS5 (or even their predecessors). Even something like MLB The Show is noticeably different. And it's why many developers choose not to make a game available on the Switch. Because it would involve either watering down the graphics to an unacceptable level on other platforms or making a build specific to the Switch. Like most Nintendo systems the Switch survives almost entirely on first party games (which I love) and it's ability to play them anywhere. But I wouldn't say it's for "serious" gamers as a decent gaming laptop would give similar portability while providing equal or better performance and a wider selection of games.

Yep... coaches talk all the time about self inflicted wounds usually in the
context of a loss. This is a self inflicted wound by Brooks that will cost him goodwill and support in the fanbase. Now, if he wins enough people likely won't care. But this is the kind of thing that shortens the slack fans will give a coach when/if he starts struggling. It's especially a bad look when his daughter is a non-contributor (17 minutes total) and still taking up a scholarship. And like you pointed out it was completely unnecessary. As you said there's no upside which makes the decision seem petty and personal. I don't know if that's the case but from the outside it looks like Brooks cut a local fan favorite player before her senior season out of spite.

Yeah obviously Owusu was probably most of the problem but looking back it
seemed like she was the whole problem. But I remember reading about Brooks having a group chat that only had certain players in it and that was my first red flag. Since then there has been more evidence that Brooks basically finds his favorites and neglects everyone else. Not saying that situation is comparable to this one at Kentucky but it does demonstrate a recurring theme with Brooks.

Yep... when everything with Owusu went down lots of people were quick to
blame her. And while I don't think she handled it well (especially with regards to the LSU Final Four game) it's pretty clear that there was more going on than the average fan realized. Obviously every coach will have favorite players but Brooks over reliance on 5-6 players is one of the reasons I don't think he'll be able to consistently compete in the SEC. You need depth and for whatever reason it seems like he doesn't believe in that.

Yeah we didn't go very far west. We started in Sydney flew to Cairns and
did a catamaran to Green Island for the Great Barrier Reef. Flew to Alice Springs and did Uluru. Went to Melbourne for a couple days around the time of the F1 race. Then flew to Queensland and did Milford Sound took a bus to Mount Cook then on to Christchurch. Flew out of Christchurch and finished up with 3 days in Fiji.

We were just there on the 7th. Didn't climb the bridge although some in our
group did. Did attend a Dungeons and Dragons themed show in the Sydney Opera House which was both really cool. I had no intentions of seeing an opera there but this was a fun, interactive show with a crowd that was pretty much the opposite of an opera one. You headed anywhere else in Australia?

Confirms what I’ve said since Brooks left. Strack was the big loss for us.
Amoore was great but she had one season left no matter what. And she was a guard which is much easier to find/replace. Strack is post player with multiple years left. If she can learn how to stay out of foul trouble then she could be a superstar by the time she leaves.
Brooks is and was a good recruiter who focuses on a core group of starters with very little subs. He’s also a mediocre game day coach. And those things will almost certainly limit him in the SEC even if Strack blows up. He will probably never be able to out talent South Carolina or LSU. So they will usually have equal or greater overall talent and depth as well as superior game day coaching.

Zealand and Fiji since March 5 but still. I’ve seen a few clips and scores but I couldn’t even tell you who the #1 seeds are.

The dislike is easy to understand. Few people dislike him simply for
taking the TAMU job. It’s more the fact that everything seemed to be about Buzz. VT was simply a minor character or background to the Buzz Williams show. And for many people that’s exactly what it was, a show. Many of the things he said and did came across as disingenuous or performative. He also didn’t care about building a foundation for the program. He built one team, rode it as far as he could and then bolted. He also used up all the recruiting visits and apparently committed violations. So yeah plenty of reasons beyond he took a better job.

See things like telling his players how to stand for the anthem came across
as performative and phony to me. Then again most things Buzz did came across that way. And of course it was apparent from his first day that he was looking for a bigger job. Pretty much every season we had to deal with him being interested in an opening. Then you have the fact that he used all our recruiting visits prior to leaving. Then there are the apparent recruiting violations. Add those all up and I feel even more confident in my initial impression.

In Australia so I haven’t been following the tournament. I saw that
basically the entire SEC got in. Good to see that the football narrative is now spilling over into basketball. Pretty soon all SEC teams in all sports will be guaranteed a postseason bid regardless of regular season results. Definitely a healthy thing for college athletics as a whole.

Yeah it can definitely work but it's not the no brainer that a lot of
people think it is. In theory yes you're making it so the opposing team can't tie. But you are also making it into a free throw contest and extending the game whereas if you let them take a 3 and they miss and you rebound then you just need to hit one FT and it's probably over. And like you said you're also counting on not fouling while shooting and not having the refs think the guy was shooting as a lot of guys will throw the ball up as soon as they have contact to try to get a shooting foul.
I think it ultimately comes down to how good both teams shoot free throws, how good the opposing team shoots threes, and how much time is left. 20 seconds I'd be inclined to play defense. Less then 10 seconds I'd probably try to foul if you can do it in the backcourt.

I was reading an article about fouling when up 3 and it turns out that
statically speaking there's not a huge advantage one way or the other. I was actually kind of surprised.

Basically Lemley is a good pitcher but the type that you see every few
years or so. Rochard is more like every 10 years. And Tincher is once in a lifetime.

My theory is that Micheaux said something afterwards that made the refs
angry and they decided to look for anything on the replay to call on her in retaliation. Some officials can be very petty and thin skinned and it looks like they let their emotions get the best of them. The other explanation is simply that they are incompetent and unable to make very obvious calls despite multiple replay reviews. Either way it's not a good look.

I don't see anything that justifies giving Micheaux a technical for the initial altercation. If she said something afterwards ok sure. But for a "shove" when she was simply trying to separate players and get to her teammate... absolutely not. It's not like she came in hot and two hand pushed an opponent in retaliation. I don't understand how they review that for so long and don't come away with simply a common foul and double technicals. It's almost like Micheaux said something afterwards that they didn't like so they looked for a way to justify ejecting her.

Yeah I don’t see it at all. Spring games have never been about running
actual schemes. They are for the fans. The goodwill combined with the increase in revenue for local businesses is far greater than any small disadvantage.
And yes I most definitely think that watching our OC’s film from actual games is far more valuable than some generic offense using a hodgepodge of players at the spring game. Hell I think the recent article about the OC on the front page is more valuable.
If we lose to South Carolina it isn’t going to be because of something we showed at the spring game.

Sure but they will get a lot more out of one than the other. You could even
argue that wasting their time on spring game footage is a net positive as it prevents them from looking at something more beneficial.

I get the new coordinators stuff but at the same time are we going to run
anything that wouldn't be found by watching film on the coaches at a previous destination? If I'm an opposing team I'm going to look at actual game film over a scrimmage with all the starters split up and playing two hand touch for the most part.

This is another strange argument. How many spring games have there been
players that looked awesome and never contributed? The inverse is also true. There have been plenty of players who were basically invisible in the spring game that later became solid starters or even stars. Is it really a wise strategy to throw money at someone based solely on their performance in a glorified scrimmage? And if another team truly believes that a guy who is coming off injury or buried on the depth chart could flourish in their system then they are going to go after him regardless of a spring game performance.
It's not about a pre/post portal mindset. It just logically doesn't make sense.

I've seen this given as a reason and it just seems absurd. No one is out
there running anything other than a vanilla offense during open practices (spring or otherwise). The teams are often mixed and matched so it's not like you're even seeing the first string offense together. It's always been just a glorified scrimmage that the public can watch. I read an article about teams canceling their spring games and none of the arguments seemed very compelling.

It’s the same shtick with him in all sports all season. During games he
throws in the towel at the drop of a hat. Then if we win he claims it was his reverse mojo and if we lose he can point to being “right”.
Same deal outside of games. Make up some arbitrary criteria and if it doesn’t get met then spread doom and gloom. If it does then just make up a new criteria.

Doesn’t matter if we’re tired of it, this was the plan all along. Get huge
money from football and then filter it down to the other sports. They successfully pushed the narrative that the SEC is infinitely better than any other football conference and that’s given them a massive advantage in all sports.

Pretty much this. There’s one player every season that some fans seems to
lock in on as being the worst. And once they have established that narrative then every single mistake is called out and any positive aspects are either quietly acknowledged or simply ignored.

Went to the mall over lunch just to get some steps in. The line at Pandora
was out the door. It was crazy. Do that many people really wait until literally the day of to get a gift? Do they not know that online shopping exists? The only valid reason I could see for being there today would be if they had some sort of great deal or giveaway that required you to be there in person on February 14.

Hey now... with Twitch a guy can make a living playing video games. You do
need to either be really good or really personable or have a gimmick to make big money but it can and does happen. I wish I was better or less introverted to do it. In a way I was ahead of my time as a child. I used to play Nintendo and make my brothers watch me. My mom would tell me to let them have a turn and I'd say "No they like watching me".

It can be modern day poetry when done right. Lots of double meanings,
wordplay, subtle references etc. Sure you sometimes have to look past the profanity and slang but it's there. There's an entire website dedicated to analyzing lyrics. It used to be called Rap Genius but has since just become Genius as it deals with all genres now.

This post is peak cringe. Complaining about today's music while misusing
today's slang. The halftime show was anything but "cringe". Probably best to stay in your lane on this one.
Brady was... ok. He did give some good insights which he is uniquely able to provide. And he also made some self deprecating remarks which helps him be more relatable. But he also lost track of the down/distance and the players involved too often. He mistimed some of the telestrator stuff (which could be on the production crew as well) and he occasionally interrupted or talked over his partner.

Yeah the more I thought about it the more I liked it. I would have liked if
he had done some of his older stuff as I'm more familiar with that. But it's clear he had a vision and a message to send (both to Drake and to the audience) and he stuck to that which I respect.

Yep. The teasing of Not Like Us. The sh*t eating grin at the camera as he
said "Hey Drake". I understand why he couldn't finish the Certified Loverboy Certified Pedo line but good lord would that have been epic. But imagine the FCC complaints by people who would think he was somehow endorsing it instead of calling people out for it.

Exactly... people tend to listen to the music they grew up with regardless
of what genre. How many people complain about today's country versus older stuff? I've always been a rap fan but I still gravitate towards the mid 90s to early 2000s stuff. I will say that usually when I've given newer artists a chance I've enjoyed them.
