Even with all the new metrics, plus RPI (which seemed to get a lot of air time on the broadcast), we were still sitting around 14-16, but could easily be "out" for a regional as well. Softball, would it all make it to Pete and Co.? Would this be a start? I assume when it is desingated, it actually ends up where it is supposed to go. My experience indicates this to be true. 1. Yes, we have our moments. Anna misplayed that grounder yesterday, but we are more solid than liquid.

1. Mazz's change up looks so much better now, as the season is progressing. Perhaps some good in-season development from her and the coaches. 2. Gabby can run like a deer. May be the strongest player pound for pound. 3. Foster has been a great pick-up for VT. Great confidence at the plate. She delivers time and time again out of the lead-off spot. 4. Castine would be batting 3, 4, or 5 for most teams. What a luxury to have her help anchor the bottom of the line-up. 5. Outside of the exit velocity of the HR's, we just seem to be hitting the ball even harder now as a team - even in the cold weather yesterday. 6. Congrats to Anna for improving her plate appearances this year. 7. Love the "high character" of our team. These women ooooooozzzzzzeeeee professionalism and dignity. 8. We may have the best infield defense in the ACC. 9. We seem to threaten an individual record every game (runs scored, doubles, RBI, etc.) Bonus 10. @VTChip - fundraising idea. Get 20 macho donors to face Mazz at TSP. Single plate appearance. If any of the 20 can hit a HR, each donor pays $1000 each. If no one can hit a HR, each donor pays $2500. Arthur can umpire from the stands. Just for fun.

Duke and FSU pitchers are great when they throw that 53-55 miler. Our pitching battery does not have it (maybe Grizzard), and we struggle hitting it (like every team for sure). It will be our nemesis this season, as it takes away our potent offense. Maybe we can go "small ball" if we need it down the road.

Look forward to what you learn from Coach Duffy. The talent is there to make the NCAA's, agree?

maybe a little rusty with the time off. I expect them to play much looser today. They have seen all three of the Stanford arms (not sure that was a great coaching decision), so nothing more should hold them back. I would not be surprised if we swept Stanford. because injuries can / could really hurt the team at a moments notice. I feel like Softball could absorb / overcome an injury or two better than wrestling. But, also a sport that could pull it off sooner rather than later.

than our own Softball Team? Tons of momentum, fan support (people + $$$), solid recruiting, focused and disciplined coaching staff, better than most facilities and ballpark. All we need is a bit of luck in the playoffs. I would not be shocked if Softball were to pull off a Natty in the future. All arrows pointing in the right direction. Name a sport with a better chance than Pete's Pack?

Especially if she wants the up-tempo, pressing D she frequently mentions. Most, if not all the returnees are athletic (enough). I could even see Silva fitting in as she is a bit thinner for 6'7 and can run if she can be turned back to BBurg. Who knows. I look for the team to look a little more like UNC and Duke next season. Regardless, I don't think she needs the "super big" to run her offense - maybe one more 6'4 player. Wentzel, Suffren, and even Ekh (although one step slower) like to attack the basket at times. Baker will need to work on ball skills. I think we get 3 - 4 solid portal players, and we should be able to fill out a decent squad. I could easily see VT finishing in the top 6 - 7 next year on grit / determination alone. Certainly a PATT stance I know. I expect Duffy to get more out of the returnees than Brooks ever could (or would). I also wouldn't be shocked to see King and Kitley involved in recruiting behind the scenes to help close a few portal deals - although we will never know about this. Finally, when Duffy talks about "building relationships", this is the same to me as Brooks "family feeling" approach. One in the same, except I see Duffy playing everyone and not the CKB favorites. Team chemistry may actually go up next year. My hopeful prognostication....have at it.

Assuming we win the first game (F$U) of course. Duke seemed more beatable when we played them, but they shot lights out against us. Maybe we do not match up well against Duke - not sure. But Carolina seemed to have their way with us, especially 9th year Bacot. Either opponent would be a tough out, but we are playing really nice ball right now. I do like our chances against F$U though...

At 6-2, she gives up only one inch to Reese. I bet she would love to push Reese around a bit. Just my perception that she loves to be physical.

From the Sub and MBB Boards.... 1. Coach Young is an idiot. Can't coach, getting outcoached, etc. 2. We lost all our good assistants. 3. We can't recruit athletic players, or if we do, they leave at first light. 4. We will be a sub .500 team this year. 5. All the incoming transfers can't cut it, not as good as those that left. 6. We are slow, can't pass, can't shoot, can't cut, pick, or roll. I wonder if the same themes were thrown about 2 years ago when VT won the ACC Championship.??? If I'm correct. VT is running the same system since Coach Young came to Tech. And now, the coaches, players, system, etc. basically suck? March is FOUR months away, and Hokie Nation is ready to throw in the towel. This is the "big picture" I glean from reading the boards after the Auburn and FAU losses. Do I have this summarized accurately?
