I would agree with this. I was worried that VR might have figured Eddie
out a little and would come out and get to his offense more this time. But, Eddie completely controlled the match and looked confident and explosive. Expecting big things from him in a couple of weeks.
Henson did Henson things. Would have liked to see him hang on a couple of more secs in the 3rd to get the RT point, but in some ways, I'm glad it worked out the way it did so he could get the match's only TD. He controlled that match too.
McGongle won McGongle style, but Orine brought the action. Conner was a little lucky, but wrestling that way is his MO and it works. He's really had a strong end of the season and you gotta feel good about his NCAA chances.
The way Hip attacked Ed Scott was really impressive. For a rFR to go out and attack a rSR All American to open the action with the spotlight on him was extraordinary. He is way ahead of the curve! Such an unusual style to prep for and I think that will work to his advantage when facing new competition at the NCAAs.
Sam had a rough match but Cedeno was sharp and deserved it. Sam has to wrestle from neutral with urgency from the get go if he's going to repeat AA.
Mullen was not at the top of his game last night. I credit him for being on the attack, but he's got to be more surgical and selective at setting up and getting to his shots. Pitzer never tried to set up anything but wrestled a smart match. And it was a horrible decision to not take bottom in the 3rd. Due to a 50+ sec advantage in RT, he had nearly the whole period to get out. He was lucky the ref awarded a stall point.
Those are our AA contenders. 125-157 we are a top 3 team. Tanelli has been a huge addition for our development at the lower weights. I'm a little disappointed in the development of our upper weights. Need to see more there, IMO.
Fantastic final. Probably the best ACC final I've seen.
