Lovett’s strength is his ride on top.
Even if Henson got out, he still would need a TD to win. Thought is that he’d have 2 full minutes to get a TD. There’s no guarantee it would have went to OT. And if the match ended OT with no score, the 2 30 second ride outs are Lovett’s advantage.
So the coaches and Henson strategized that to beat Lovett, Henson needed a TD in regulation. They believed in his ability and he almost had it.
I agree with the coaches strategy there.
