how are uva-c and notre dame receiving votes in AP and Coaches polls
and VT is not?

either NCSU's coach (who they narrowly just lost to) or Wake's coach (who they are about to play). For Notre Dame they've been in the Top 10 for the first half of the season and the Top 25 for the rest of it. Barely fell out. So their name has been there all year and the coaches and writers are basically only good at name recognition on even their best days.
So, as @Stork said below polls are stupid. But "Others receiving votes" in polls is a level of total meaninglessness that would make Nietzsche go, "wow!"

Why VT likely not getting votes. Generally, VT probably viewed as not as good as those reams.
