Everyone plays AAU ball now and are exposed to good competition. And to say

basketball is an urban sport is just not correct. It just a numbers games, sure more players come from urban areas just because of sheer numbers. Dell Curry, arguably Techs greatest all time player came from Grottoes ( population 3,036) hardly an urban area. Carleigh Wenzel came from San Antonio a fairly large city and had to red shirt her first year because she would not have gotten any PT. That’s an old myth that needs to be put to rest. If you have talent it does not matter if you are from NYC or Podunk USA. Will Sears probably struggle some ? Sure but not because of where she is from but just like most all freshmen do when stepping up P4 level . ** Edited by uber hokie at 3/11/2026, 9:46:42 PM
