We may hit a lot of homeruns
But we are not consistently great hitters. Our arms need to be a lot more overpowering early in the count. Give up to many walks. Maybe because they pitched a lot of innings but Layton was best pitcher late rather than Bree and Mazz.

. . Bree and Mazz. Layton hadn't pitched important innings since Salem. She threw well but did have the 'novelty' advantage. There's little question that Bree had a flare-up of some chronic inflammatory syndrome impacting her throwing arm. Mazz is Mazz; throw it hard and hope the opponents swing at pitches out of the zone (see UVA game).

However, 23 of 103 in the NCAA regional .223 BA. 16 of 74 ACC tourney .216 BA. Just during those tourneys we hit a slump while other teams excelled.

HRs only represent 13.4% of our method of getting on base. We don't rely on it. I would look at the doubles, singles, and walks. We get on base via singles, doubles, triples, and walks 86% of the time.
You are right in that we may not have a superstar hitting like a Cori McMillan, but we have very good hitters. We will finish in the top 20, we lost less than 15 games. This has the makings of a very good team. Note how many new players were at positions: Addison Foster, Mizelle, Abromavage, Layton

I would hazard that Lynch's goal every AB is to get a double (if not just to get on) despite hitting 18 hrs.
Aldridge sees herself as a gap to gap hitter.
YAeger does not view herself as trying to hit HRs
Addison Foster just wants to get on base however she can

practices or sessions where hitting home runs is all we try to do. He teaches a slight upper cut swing in order to get the ball in the air because that is the only way to get it out of the park. The problem is that if that is the way you swing every time you are more likely to pop up or routine fly it to the outfield if you don't barrel it up. Sometimes you must alter your swing based on the game situation which we saw the LSU hitters do time after time.
