. . . she'll be in Blacksburg next year. Her career is 75% over. It appears the coaches at VT have done all for her they can. This is not an indictment of the coaches. Maybe she's absolutely peaked but I wonder if she might want to take a shot in a different coaching environment.

She won't be elite. When the word elite is used, that means Canady, that means Jordy from Nebraska. She won't be that. I think a decision next year can be....recruit a stud transfer and put her in the batting lineup. I know that won't happen and likely should not happen. But, we have to really figure out if she can reach her ceiling, her numbers will look good, but have a ceiling right now because of the walks as a junior.

. . . so do literally hundreds of kids. Many of the position players on D1 softball teams were pitchers at one time. Those who become truly elite have an innate sense of body awareness. As 12, 13, and 14 year-olds their private pitching coaches see it. They ask them to make an alternation in their mechanics and the elite kids understand what's being asked of them and implement. These are the "pitchers". Other kids (most, in fact) never quite figure it out. They rely on arm talent to throw the ball past batters. Some do this all the way to D1. Mazz is far more a 'thrower' than a 'pitcher' . . . . remember most of her offers out of high school were as a hitter. She needs to be able to throw her change for a strike and do that consistently.

I am not saying she can't be very good. I just think the word elite is over-used in today's society. Elite means the best of the best. Sure, if she stopped walking so much, she might win first team All-ACC vs. second-team All ACC and might be in the conversation with the truly elite. I don't think she can be on the top pitchers in all of softball even if she cuts down on walks. That is what elite to me means. CAn she be a top 5, even top 10, in ALL of softball/

elite. Right now she is not but she has done a lot of winning for this team she just has some off moments. Today is the worst I have seen her since game 1 vs. Duke.
