External factors & timing that can affect us: schoolwork & exam timing
Other schools deal with this too BUT some (like Duke for example) are DONE with exams. Our ladies who are outstanding student athletes have their 2 postseason tournaments sandwiched around exams.
Tomorrow exams start & the go thru Wednesday. Regionals start next Friday
I’m trying to be level headed (lol right?) about how difficult this must be mentally for them.
IMO NOT ideal timing the way our school calendar falls w/this sport’s postseason
I hope they can use their time on the field to take their minds off the stress of finals BUT this can’t be easy

for several reasons....
1) it seems like many college classes are opting more for "capstone" type papers/projects in lieu of a traditional exam. So a project due on the exam date rather than showing up in McBryde 100 for an actual exam.
2) believe it or not, many now classes have "virtual" exams. Sign in to a secure browser and have at it from anywhere.
3) professors seem more willing than ever to work with student athletes. I think just generally speaking there aren't as many old hardasses that have to have things done "my way or the highway".
I think some of this was ushered in with COVID, and some just a sign of the times...

Student athletes have been balancing academics with athletics for most of their lives. Plus think of all the vast resources they have at the college level, especially at a P4 school like Virginia Tech. They have tutors, special academic advisors, and other tools at their disposal to succeed in the classroom while participating in athletics. Also the professors understand the situtation they're in. They can offer extensions or other opportunities to balance the rigorous schedule these student athletes have. I guarantee you exams are not playing a distraction factor at all for the team in the ACC tournament, especially the more seasonsed starters.

Effort behind them and they still have that workload in the weeks of prep leading up to their two most important weekends of their season
Just saying…that’s a lot..and some don’t think about all of that stuff going on.
