As much as I hate looking ahead it appears we just miss the ACC Tourney bye
unless Loserville loses twice at NC State ( and we sweep Syracuse, of course) correct?

and we have a better overall record than Stanford. I wonder how the tiebreaker would work. Odd are heavy that both VT and Louisville sweep their next opponents.

*We didn't play head-to-head so that doesn't apply
*We had the exact same records against common opponents (Duke, UNC, and NC State) - that doesn't apply
*We are also tied under the Winning percentage versus common opponents based on their order of finish (highest seed down).
IF they use "Combined win percentage of conference opponents (strength of schedule)," the Stanford opponents are 88-86 while the VT opponents are 73-84
IF they use RPI, thru Saturday's games, Stanford is #18 (strength if schedule #16 VT is #23 (SOS is #71).
Obviously, I hope I wrong. I think we need to become huge NC State fans next weekend and hope they can give Louisville another loss.

If we sweep Syracuse and Louisville goes 1-2 against NCSU, we're one game ahead. Also, if we sweep Syracuse, we will do no worse than tying Stanford, who is done with their ACC schedule after Cal tonight. I have no idea what the tiebreakers look like.

Ironically, Stanford and VT had exactly the same results against three common opponents (both teams swept UNC + NC State and took 2 of 3 from Clemson). So, I believe if it's a two way tie between VT and Stanford, it goes to a coin flip by the ACC (insert joke here). Now, if VT, Stanford, and Louisville are in a three way tie for 3rd-5th (this likely only happens if VT sweeps Syracuse and Louisville drops 1 at NC State, or VT goes 2-1 and NC State goes 1-2), I believe Louisville gets the 5th seed because Stanford and VT swept NC State, whereas Louisville does not sweep NC State in this scenario. Also, Stanford and VT both took 2 of 3 from Clemson but Louisville lost 2 of 3 to Clemson. So, in this scenario, I believe it is still a coin flip between Stanford and VT, but this time for the 3rd seed instead of 4th.
Bottom line: VT needs to sweep Syracuse (easier said than done up there) and, if that happens, Louisville needs to lose at least one at NC State. Then I believe we get no worse than a 4th seed. I may have gotten something wrong, but that's how I read the ACC tiebreaker rules.

As I posted above, I don't think we win a head-to-head tie with Stanford. There is some verbiage that indicates that "Combined win percentage of conference opponents (strength of schedule)" comes into play, but I'm not 100% sure.
Those Georgia Tech games may end up biting us.

@HolidayInnHokie says that Louisville ends up losing a 3-way tiebreaker with us and Stanford. If so, they get dropped and you then start over with a 2-way tie with us and Stanford that apparently can't be broken.

The ACC does that in other sports to break head-to-head ties - it is not clear if that happens in softball.
I hope it doesn't because it doesn't favor VT.

I did find something from 2018 when we apparently still had Coastal and Atlantic divisions, but that isn't current.

Typically, it's against "common opponents". They usually go from top to bottom until they break ties.
We and Stanford went 1-2 against Duke. Stanford didn't play them. So that likely doesn't figure in.
Louisville went 2-1 against Stanford, we didn't play either team.
We went 2-1 against UVA, Stanford and Louisville didn't play them.
We may have the tiebreaker against Louisville because we went 2-1 against Clemson and UL went 1-2. Stanford didn't play them.
We swept UNC but so did Stanford. Louisville didn't play them.
I have no idea how far down we have to go to break ties with Stanford.
