SB America: What to Watch, Week 10
"Will Eden Bigham and Courtney Layne pitch better against Virginia Tech?
"Last week, Virginia’s two best arms did not perform well against Duke, leading to a Blue Devils sweep. If that’s the case again versus Virginia Tech, similar results will follow."
Sometimes reruns can be fun!!!

If they are power pitchers, good for us. If they are spin pitchers with good drops, it might be a bit more difficult for us.

. . . that none of the 4 hoo pitchers are power pitchers. Note that their roster HT's are range from 5'3" to 5'7", no Karlyn Pickens to be found. Also note that all have good BB/K ratios. These girls are a lot more like Carrico than Mazz. They are going to try to paint the corners and get us to swing out of the zone. They will not try to throw it by our kids (they couldn't if they tried).

In multiple games in the past, we have struggled against ‘non-elite’ pitching (including when that middle of the road stats-wise hoos pitcher completely shut us down at home a few seasons ago)
I don’t have a skilled enough softball eye to know why our team struggles to hit average pitching at times.
But back in my baseball days, we saw multiple examples of ‘elite’ teams unexpectedly losing to underdog teams with average pitching …. because in practice they focused near entirely on hitting top velocity (and after the fact they admitted to struggling to adjust to lower / normal velo)
Hopefully we’ll get off to a great start tonight and plate a couple runs early to give Mazz a good cushion. Go Hokies.

. . . take. Obviously we have coaches on staff that can throw lots of velocity. I can say with some authority that male pitchers don't do a particularly simulating slow and low female pitchers. I have no idea if the current pitching machines can do that.
