I wasn't able to watch the game either, but my understanding is that once the rain start coming and Auburn got behind, they immediately went above and beyond to slow up the game and "run out the clock". All while harassing the umps to call the game due to weather as each minute went by. i.e sounds like they changed pitchers a bunch of times back to back to bleed the clock and allow more time for rain to make the field un-playable (i.e. if Auburn would have just woman-ed up and played, the game likely could have finished all 7 innings). Feels like an is what it is. Running out the clock like that ... I've seen it many times in travel ball, but to me at least it seems ridiculous to see it happen at this level. Especially opening weekend? Me personally I'd rather see our Hokies battle full out and lose than sneak out the back door with a tie. Is what it is.

Once the game reaches the 5th inning the losing team must have their turn at bat or the game reverts to the score of the last completed inning. Also, a game stopped by the weather has to finish at least the top of the 5th to be official if the home team is leading. If the home team is losing they have to be allowed to bat and if the weather prevents it the scores reverts back to the last completed inning. Provided at least 5 innings were completed. Last night because Auburn was losing and didn’t bat in the 7th inning of the game the score reverted back to the score at the end of the 6th inning. Just as an example, if the umpires had stopped the game due to the weather in the bottom of the 5th inning after the Auburn HR then the Hokies would have lost because they had already batted that inning. I don’t think people are upset about the rule as much as they are about the shenanigans by Auburn’s coach in the top of the 7th inning which resulted in the game being delayed and then Auburn athletic officials made the decision to not resume the game either last night once it stopped raining or this morning.

No reason to delay until that point and then cancel as it was close to being ready to play. Unless there was some time limit I’m missing or they determined some part of the field was not in good shape. Or they could play the bottom half of the 7th today. Just seems like a fishy call once Auburn got down 9-5 in the 7th.

VT had runners on the corners with zero outs... auburn saw the writing on the wall and did what they had to do to avoid another loss to VT !

There was no reason that the game couldn’t have been finished last night or even this morning because of the tournament set up. We understand the rules, but that normally applies when maybe it’s the last game of the series and people are leaving in town and blah blah blah, but that wasn’t the circumstance.
