Well, neither team's pitching staffs really looked that good this weekend.
No one really seemed to have the command required to be a true ace. The umpiring was a factor for sure but I didn't see anyone who could throw it where they wanted to consistently.

Really was not good umpiring behind the plate.

Three different guys behind the plate so I suspect, on average, it's what you're going to see in the ACC. I didn't see one pitcher who could throw an "out pitch" with consistency. Sophie had the drop going Friday night but it was never a strike. They figured that out on Saturday.

Before this weekend, the Hokies were averaging 2.5 walks per game and the Hoos were averaging 3.5
It was a tough weekend with regards to balls/strikes for both teams.

consistently inconsistent but they were inconsititently inconsistent. It was new low in umping - all three were bad behind the plate. Usually you get 1 of 3 good, 2 of 3 is great, 3 of 3 is very rare.

But Mazzarone and Kleiman later in her game were often outside. The counts they fell behind on to get to 2-0 or 2-1 were not just about the referees. We should acknowledge their pitchers were not sharp. Kleiman was not attacking the zone later her game..

same time this weekend. That's why it's not only easy to blame the umpires, it's reasonable to blame the umps. Both bullpens go haywire at the same time? Can't reasonably deny the ump factor.

Though it seems like denying the pitching factor is a thing

He stated that the P's needed to do a better job attacking the zone.

a walkathon on the same field in the same games. Can those coaches speak critically about the umps without formal repercussions from the ACC and avoid potential personal repercussions by the multiple umpire crews in future games?

Her drop can make a batter look stupid. Awesome pitch when she's working it well.
