Alabama figured VT out by end of 1st game. Hammered our pitching 2nd game and shut down our offense. Hopefully we can learn from this.

this Alabama team is a step down from previous years but I see a pattern for VT's offensive production this year against teams with a pulse.

and ***an’s offensive numbers. I had hoped that Martin and Castine would keep our HR numbers up. But, they aren’t starters now. We are hitting 1/2 the HR per game from last year. On pace to hit less than 60.

To your point, it seems like the Hokies struggle with any decent team. Their win against Bama on Friday was one great play away from a potential loss.
For those closer to softball, why do you feel it’s this way? Pitching, hitting, both? Do the players psych themselves out against better competition?

Facts are facts. I hate to say it, but we struggle against good teams
Go back to 2022. We freaking run ruled a highly ranked Florida State team on their own field, totally embarrassed them, and scored more than 20 runs in the game! THAT was a dominant team that had the ability to beat literally anyone. This team is different. Young, with some nice talent, and a very very good senior pitcher, but any objective assessment is that we are not an elite team. The posts above are accurate and objective.

And split with a top 25 team both on the road
Our hitting can’t really be called a struggle yet IMO because of small sample size. We’re not being dominated by swinging and missing. We’re hitting the ball just right at defenders

My observation is the team seems to struggle against better teams.
I’ll add an assessment, in four games against SEC teams the Hokies have been out hit by almost 2 to 1 and out scored by 2.5 to 1. Casual fan or not the numbers are there for all to assess.
My question for those closer to the team, sounds like you, is why do you believe they are struggling against the better teams.

that at LSU and today. The better hitters are the big difference. There are great pitchers on all the great teams, but not as many great hitters. Patience getting used to a great pitcher are all part of the equation. Very few undefeated teams come World Series time..
