Why wasn't Keely the winning pitcher? Hokies ahead when she went out.

were used instead of 1. I think Ivy pitched 3 innings and determined to be the most effective pitcher. VT was ahead when Ivy came in and she maintained the lead, therefore she was credited with the win.

of factors and situation. Starters go 4 in 7 innings or 3 in 5 inning slaughter to qualify for win. In relief and multiple relief situations it depends on whether a pitcher qualifies as a pitcher of record and/or which pitcher may be deemed most effective by the official scorer.

there is a subjective factor required. Official scorer deems one pitcher more effective than another. Kinda like reviewing whether Danny Coale made a catch.

in most cases it is largely based on objective evidence. What was game status when pitcher entered(leading, trailing, tied)? Did she inherit base runners and/or the count on the batter in box? How long did she pitch and what was status of game when she departed(finished, another reliever)?
