Mazz control issues by the numbers

In her FR season 3.5 BB/7 innings In her SOPH season 4.5 BB/7 innings In her JR season (thus fare) 5.5 BB/7 innings Is this evidence she's getting worse? Absolutely not. Her role has changed each year. FR season she's behind Lemley and Grein. SOPH season behind Lemley. The season she's #1. She's likely faced stiffer competition each season. However, there's also no evidence that her control has improved. Even in her complete games she almost throws 120+ pitches and 'lives on the edge'. Can this change? Possibly. But the more likely scenario is that it's pretty much 'what you see is what you get'. Think about Emma L's career. I (maybe we) kept waiting for her ball to move more and for her to use her change more effectively. It never happened. Of course she had the whole 'to leap or not' issue and three different pitching coaches. That said, the last VT pitcher I felt made demonstrable improvements during her career was Rochard. She developed an effective down pitch and simply got better all the way around. This is not an indictment of the current staff. I've always contended that great pitchers are most often recruited rather than developed. If they aren't aces by the end of their SOPH season then they're not likely to reach that level.

Few pitchers make lots of improvements after high school.

Yes, her "control" issues actually make her hard to hit. The batters are

Well, not quite. Bree has started a couple of games with mixed success.
