Next Year's Offense May Take a Hit

We are a program right now that will compete to be in the top 3-4 of the ACC, make regionals, and potentially go to Sundays in any given regional But next season's offense is likely going to take a step back. We are transitioning to the new era. Nex year will be the next stage after the full transition from the previous Bennett-***an-Bailey- Ritter-Peck-Lemley-McMillian era. The team now belongs to the next wave of hitters and pitchers. Pitching Staff: Mazzarone Kleiman Grizzard 2 r-freshmen in Reagan Troy and Bree Carrico 2 true freshmen in Addyson Fisher and Avery Layton Mazzarone has to take that next step to being the Ace, to throw strikes consistently, and work to be elite. I am not sure if anyone else can be seen as the real no. 2 yet, even if Kleiman is considered to have done well this year. Offense The potency of the offense is going to revolve around the core of Chatfield, Lynch, Castine, Aldridge, Yeager...and whoever wins the jobs in the OF. Right now, barring some major growth in the off-season, the power numbers of the offense are likely to decline. This year we had 4 players reach double digit HRs and it took the post-season for Lynch to do it. Next year, we might only have two (Chatfield and Lynch) depending on who wins the OF jobs. 1B: Chatfield - Maybe she can get close to 19-20 hrs again 2B: Castine - probably settle into a .280 average (hopefully) with 5-10 hrs SS: Rohs - a career . 220 hitter at best 3B: Lynch - . 300+ hitter who can get to 10 HRs C: Aldridge or Yeager - .300+ hitters? Who can get 5-8 HRs each. Still room to get better OF: OF: OF: DP: The other players with a shot to move into roles as contributors barring any portal additions. Abromavage - OF? Charlotte Moore - OF? Path to 1B blocked Lyla Blackwell - OF. Legette - Path to 1B blocked. Transition to OF? Jordan Bishop - OF - true freshman Mazzarone in DP role at times but... We have a lot of players coming in or sitting on the bench who are INFs first but their paths to starting are blocked. Jayden Jones - Path blocked to starting at 2B Mattie Abernathy - Path to an INF role blocked Gabby Mizelle - INF/Utility - true freshman Lilly Palante - INF/Utility - true freshman Abbie Sars - Catcher/Utility - true freshman Mia Gagliardi - Catcher/Utility - true freshman Will any true freshman be too good to keep off the field? Right now, the main opportunities are in the OF or pushing for time as a DP

Legette 1B, Chatfield RF is what we may see
hokiepro 05/18/25 11:10 PM ET
I thought the same about Legette and Chatfield, but I think we lost a lot
vatechcowpatty 05/19/25 05:29 AM ET
Yeah. Hard to know if Legette looked a little more shaky
hokiepro 05/19/25 05:55 AM ET
I think between Rohs, Blackwell, and Castine, one of them has to learn to
vatechcowpatty 05/18/25 09:58 PM ET
Agreed. however, Castine's good hitting was a small sample size
VAHokie89 05/18/25 10:03 PM ET
Well, pulled because Martin hit better. There was a stretch when I couldnt
vatechcowpatty 05/18/25 10:12 PM ET
Blackwell had a couple nice hits in her limited ABs later in season
hokiepro 05/18/25 11:15 PM ET
Agree with your post so far as pitching is concerned. The off-season and

Well Casteen may go back to SS and Jones to 2B. Rohs offense is limited **
Hokiedanville 05/18/25 09:16 PM ET
Isn’t Rachel a senior?**
ColWilliamFleming 05/18/25 10:19 PM ET
Yes, but she’s coming back.
RJHokie 05/18/25 10:21 PM ET
Rohs needs to stay at SS unless someone beats her out.
Hokie_Forester 05/18/25 09:36 PM ET
Her "pretty decent" hitting early in the season was when numbers
VAHokie89 05/18/25 09:52 PM ET
Having an elite fielding SS is more valuable
hokiepro 05/20/25 08:24 PM ET
Agree. I hope her hitting gets much better.
RJHokie 05/18/25 09:39 PM ET
She would have hit .280 the rest of her career just to be a .250 hitter
VAHokie89 05/18/25 09:54 PM ET
Not worried about career stats as opposed to what she can accomplish
RJHokie 05/18/25 10:00 PM ET
Rohs defense is much better than Castine’s at SS.
RJHokie 05/18/25 09:21 PM ET
Not SO much better
VAHokie89 05/18/25 09:55 PM ET
I happen to think Rohs's SS defense IS MUCH better than Castine's. I think

Playrs close to even in fielding need to be separated by their hitting. T
ancient alien 2018 05/18/25 09:42 PM ET
Agree.
RJHokie 05/18/25 09:44 PM ET
Is her hitting plateaued or can she improve?**
ancient alien 2018 05/18/25 09:46 PM ET
I think she can improve.
RJHokie 05/18/25 09:49 PM ET
Right now after two seasons, she is essentially a .220 hitter
VAHokie89 05/18/25 09:57 PM ET
It's faulty logic to talk about what next year will be, then use a possible
King of Hokies 05/18/25 10:34 PM ET
My logic was that Rohs, for example, would have to hit
VAHokie89 05/19/25 12:11 AM ET
No. If she hits 0.280 next year, then she's a 0.280 hitter for next year.
King of Hokies 05/19/25 12:21 AM ET
Hopefully we can hold onto Aldridge. Worried she may go elsewhere if Zoe
Hokie_Forester 05/18/25 08:49 PM ET
This is my main worry about who we’d unexpectedly lose. Why stay when
vatechcowpatty 05/18/25 09:48 PM ET
Aldridge is darn near the top of must keep IMO.... Lynch and Chatfield are
RRHokie90 05/18/25 09:12 PM ET
The Aldridge and LeGette situations will have to be addressed
RJHokie 05/18/25 08:56 PM ET
For sure. And if the SS, Gabby, turn out to be a as good as advertised,
nkhooch 05/19/25 02:29 AM ET
The Portal could make who plays where a moot point. Hope it does not, but
ancient alien 2018 05/18/25 09:39 PM ET
Thats the hard part of having a lot of good players. Keeping them all happy**
Hokie_Forester 05/18/25 09:09 PM ET
Unless you want great players instead.. See the thread below about
VAHokie89 05/18/25 09:58 PM ET
Oh yea but until we throw the money at the elite players we need to keep
Hokie_Forester 05/18/25 10:06 PM ET
Truth!**
