John Shanklin often sat beside me at home softball games and he was also a fixture at women's basketball as well. As his obituary states, "In addition to his work on the farm, John was a passionate supporter of the Virginia Tech Hokies. His love for the team was evident, and he could often be found cheering them on. His spirit and enthusiasm for the Hokies were infectious, and he shared that same fervor with his loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever." We were watching a softball game several years ago and we wondered how fast the VT pitcher was throwing. I commented that I would love to have a radar gun but that they were expensive. John pulled out $100 and told me to go buy one. That's just the type of guy he was. I will really miss him. Rest in peace, my friend. Now you can watch the Hokies on the road as well.
