IMO, that is exactly what has happened. They're just being stubborn.

Since the idea didn't originate with them, it's a bad idea. Now, they're embarrassed, and feel as if they'll lose face if they acquiesce. Remember, @VTChip started fundraising for softball when he discovered the team was still using five-year old socks (Chris Helms was in charge of softball then, and had neglected them). That's what started Chip on his fundraising efforts. Now, every time Chip formulates a new fundraising, the Triumvirate is nothing but obstructionist. They even make things up to stop Chip. Chip is too much of a gentleman to say anything, but I'm not so encumbered. The Triumvirate (Whit, Chris and Brad) should be ashamed of themselves, but their egos prevent them from doing the right thing. They're just playing at leadership.
