Can get rid if it as easily as it was implemented. Highlight & Delete.
Even in hi school football once the score reaches a certain spread they run the clock continually to speed the game up but still play the entire game. They don't stop playing or reduce the game by dropping a quarter like softball can drop two entire innings.
