Especially horrific in HS

Let’s face it HS ball isn’t amazing softball. It is, however, the last opportunity to play “competitively” for +90% of all athletes. To deprive big hitters their time to shine at that level is just petty and unnecessary. Just because a good pitcher can usually blow it past 6, 7, maybe 8 players in the opposing lineup, doesn’t mean that we should be giving a free pass to the one kid that can do damage. The outcome of the game in HS shouldn’t be more important than the competitive nature of the game itself. Note: you virtually never see an intentional walk in travel ball, for obvious reasons Note: while I don’t like to see it in college, I recognize that wins matter, jobs are on the line, and there is a lot of impact to having a winning program… at this level strategize as you may. I also reserve the right to boo you as loudly as I possibly can!

Those "intentional walk" pitches were so hittable
VAHokie89 06/04/25 10:39 PM ET
Well, the coach is a guy and the intentional walk was the correct call.
MidloHokie 06/04/25 10:44 PM ET
They said Canady hadn’t intentionally walked anyone all year
VTChip 06/05/25 12:13 AM ET
Possibly but shouldn’t an elite pitcher - and she definitely is elite -

Just like baseball, you should be able to tell the umpire of intentional

That's because the rules allow the runners to take a lead, plus they have

VTChip 06/05/25 12:19 AM ET
Yep, and the TT pitching coach should have made sure she knew how. Of . .
MidloHokie 06/05/25 05:43 AM ET
The catcher has to set up in their box.
Hokie4Life_89 06/04/25 11:27 PM ET
With a pitch clock, why throw any “intentional balls” ?
HokiefromBedford 06/04/25 10:25 PM ET
There is actually a rule against it
Hokie4Life_89 06/04/25 11:18 PM ET
I saw Duke do it earlier this year. No violations except for the balls.
dallasvt 06/04/25 11:55 PM ET
Found in the exception to the EFFECT of rule 10.18

SWVAhokiegirl 06/04/25 11:46 PM ET
High school lets you intentional walk without throwing
SWVAhokiegirl 06/04/25 10:43 PM ET
This is why the HS rule is BS

Not really. Not pitching to her was correct call. Terrible execution . . .
MidloHokie 06/04/25 10:05 PM ET
Not really, bad execution.**

Why not let the best pitcher in country get the out?**
HokieHusband 06/04/25 10:06 PM ET
Why not let her get a lesser Texas hitter?**
hokietony 06/04/25 10:07 PM ET
Exactly. We've seen the 'let's pitch to the opponents best hitter' . . .
MidloHokie 06/04/25 10:17 PM ET
So let the star pitcher do what she does best....
HokieHusband 06/04/25 10:19 PM ET
