The calling of balls and strikes is rarely consistent these days in both
baseball and softball. And consistency can vary by pitch depending on the umpire, and the same pitches are sometimes called differently by the same umpire. It’s quite nerve racking and just leads to more fan and coach frustration.
The best pitchers seem to be able to better deal with the variations though.
