Let Me Tell You About The Folks on This Board Making a Difference
Big Donations are Certainly Good, but Let Me Share How The Folks on this very Message Board Have Made a HUGE Difference...
I hadn’t planned to share these specific numbers until I gave Coach Pete the final checks, but since you stated “just showing up for free games and being on the message board doesn’t make a program top tier,” let me tell you about the people on this message board.
This year alone, the Ten for the Win promotion raised over $65,000 for the softball program, the majority of which came from people on this message board. When some of the parents, heard about it, they enthusiastically jumped onboard as well.
The auction for the softball team raised another $12,000 – again much of it from TSL folks and the parents.
My VT math says that’s over $77,000 earmarked for the softball program – money that they probably would not have had otherwise. That’s pretty cool stuff. And I assure you that it has made a difference.
And although there were a few big dollar contributors, the majority of givers simply gave what they could afford – and everyone associated with the program sincerely appreciates it.
And here’s what I find especially rewarding. I was told by a Hokie Club representative that their emphasis was on “donors who gave $10,000 or more per year.” Good for them. We need big givers.
But I also think that we have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that “regular folks” can make a difference as well.
And there are a few examples of “Ut Prosim” in action from the folks on this message board.
We have one loyal donor who sends me a check every month. It’s what he can afford, and it makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.
Another donor won three autographed softballs in the auction and gave them to Arthur to share (one of them was Arthur’s favorite player so it actually became a birthday present).”
When we were close to achieving specific thresholds, two different donors reached out with challenges that they would match additional donations and that got us a nice bump.
So believe me when I say that the folks on this board make a difference. And also believe me when I say the ladies and coach D’Amour appreciate it.
So perhaps they haven’t given the big bucks per say, but MAN have they made a difference.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
