Well, it does give the pitcher an advantage. It would be very hard . . .

for the 5'6" Lemley to throw 70 mph with our really engaging her legs. That degree of leg drive is hard to get with a literal drag. The rule allowing the stride foot to start behind the rubber (like men and women internationally) actually encourages leaping which, of course, is legal for both men and women internationally. I think you'll see the rule adjusted next season allowing leaping but crow-hopping (replanted) with still be a no-no.
